very nice Bloomer, although mine are flowering, the slugs and snails really hammered it..
20 Sep, 2012
Really,S.lad? I have had them for years, and never had slug or snail damage,on any of them..how strange...

that looks great Bloomer - this with the Astilbes planted under it looked great earlier in the seaon. It has stuck in my mind and would like to do something like this in my front garden (next year)

Thank you,I remember you commenting on the Astilbes,Scottish.as you can see, thay are still there, but brown ! :o).I like the combination too...

Looking spectacular just like its namesake, they are looking great this year, must like all this rain we are having;0)

Thanks Moti..such good reliable plants..I'm surprised how many people don't like them..my next door neighbour, for one ! Lol..
21 Sep, 2012
Thanks Carole..I agree, all the rain has been good for them.
At least something likes it! ..

That's absolutely beautiful!!!

Thank you,Delonix..so nice in winter too, when the flowers turn brown..they look good when frosted..speaking of which,we have a white frost here this morning, and it's cold..! Sun just rising nicely though, and a clear blue sky..
but hope the frost is a one off,as I'm not ready for it yet !

That's lovely Bloomer! My Grandma used to call this plant 'Husband at Home' she always said it would only bloom well if the marriage was a happy one. She must have been right lol:)

Bloomer:
Does the plant die back in winter?
I can't imagine frost. We don't get frost here where I live in San Diego. Also, it almost 90ºF (32ºC) at 11:30 a.m. right now.
22 Sep, 2012
Thanks Waddy..I've never heard it called that before! Lol..looks like I was going to make sure,as I have six of them! Sedums, not husbands :o))
22 Sep, 2012
Yes it does,Delonix..but it might keep going in your area..I take all the yellowing leaves off,but leave the flowerheads on most of the winter..for insects etc...I suppose if might even be ongoing where you are..as even if it was cut down,it might still throw new stems out from the bottom..

Yes, this plant and many species of Euphorbia are evergreen here in San Diego. We have an all year growing season in our subtropical climate. :>)

Lovely show of flowers Bloomer. Last year I split my Sedum into two and they've grown twice as big this year. The insects certainly like them.
24 Sep, 2012
Thanks Lindak..they haven't even flopped with all the wind and heavy rain today..They seem to be well supported with other shrubs..I find they regenerate better too when split..poor Bees will have been missing out today too .I haven't seen any on it..can't say I blame them ! .

We had a dry spell this morning Bloomer, but it's raining again now. Gerry and I walked into town and back for a few bits of shopping. Making an apple pie later with a few apples that we had on our espalian tree this year.
25 Sep, 2012
Lucky you Lindak..at least you have done something positive..unlike me today ! Caught up with some reading, and and a couple of pre recorded Gardening programmes :o)

Wind has died down first thing and not raining at the moment, although it chucked it down in the night. I feel sorry for the people who have had their homes flooded. Hopefully the farmers got all their harvest in before the storm.
26 Sep, 2012
Wind has died down here too,but just started raining again .. very grey and cloudy, and disappointing as it gave it to be sunny with an odd shower ! maybe later..:o)
Terrible about all the flooding again, especially in Yorkshire,,such a bad year for them all..I am very grateful for a free draining garden...not even a puddle ! :o)

Our garden drains pretty well Bloomer but we are on a hill. Had some more rain today but now it's dry. Made a salmon fish pie today and roasted some parsnips from the garden as well. They tasted lovely and sweet.
26 Sep, 2012
My small lawn at the front is on a slope too,Lindak..so at times like this,I'm glad :o)..Your pie sounds very nice, but I don't like Parsnips..(or Broad beans ) but most other veg is good...We went out for lunch,so it was beans on toast at teatime...and flapjack I made this morning ...
26 Sep, 2012
I make flapjack too Bloomer and it freezes well. Nice to go out for lunch. I love baked beans Bloomer and sometimes had them cold in a sandwich. Most people would probably go YEUK!
27 Sep, 2012
Mine won't last that long Lindak,as family coming for tea..I give them half to take home..but good to know it freezes well..I do a slightly different variation now, with Demerara sugar, glace cherries sultanas and a bit of ginger..called fruit oaties, but it's still really flapjack.. .
Also made a Victoria sponge,as it's our daughters partners birthday tomorrow..so there will be a candle on it tonight ! Lol....Baked bean sandwich.?.oh no,I couldn't eat that..I really have to fancy baked beans ..and that isn't often ..I love plain crisps in a sandwich though,or banana :o))
27 Sep, 2012
Have a lovely Birthday tea tonight. Cakes sound delicious to me.
27 Sep, 2012
.
Thanks Lindak,we did..The cake went down well, and little Thomas ate most of the cherries off the top...beside his tea ,and a Banana !.
27 Sep, 2012
I love these in the autumn the Bees do to :o)
12 Oct, 2012
