I am really pleased with the way the plants on the back of the turf seat (ferns and other shade loving plants) have filled out.

Such a good idea Karen! Would you like a chamomile cutting to put on the seat!!?

Thanks everyone. Lulu, you are so kind and I hate to refuse, but tbh I cannot stand the smell of Chamomile.....weird I know, but there it is! :) I do have some lavender near the turf seat, which I love :)

San, yes, go for it! :)

LoL, I don't like drinking it but have got used to the smell.
This is going to be my next project....Do you have to take the scissors to it?

I can't tell a lie....yes, just to get the bit right at the lumbar part where your back goes...but the rest is done with hand shears. :)

I think the idea started forming somewhere at the back of my 'reptile' brain when I was in Chelsea the year that Prince Charles did a garden with turf landscaping in it...and I think, if I remember rightly, it had a lot of wildflowers too!

Not a great deal of detail about the making of the turf seat, but that's because I basically just made it up as I went along. Started with a square-ish pile of turves for the seat, then raked soil up around this for the sides and back, packed it down with the back of the rake, and laid the rest of the turves on top of that. The fact that I used a pile of turves for the seat gave it some stability. The back and sides didn't need to be as strong as they didn't take my weight on them ...at least not to begin with, although now I can happily stand on them to prune or gain access to the pond. It turned out well and I didn't need to correct anything, so all in all, I am very pleased with the finished 'hillock'! :)

Ah Thank you Karen! That's what I was thinking, sort of making it up as I go along!
If the weather keeps on as wet, it will be known as 'the soggy seat'!
