Thanks for the lovely comments. It IS a very cottagey garden and looks at its best right now, and then, as summer goes on, it seems to tail off a bit. That's when I am glad of containers to give extra colour.

Helen Yemm would definitely approve! I've just been to a talk by her, organised by the Cottage Garden Society, and she loves self-seeders too :))

Stepping stones instead of a path might be your only choice soon enough Chris ;)

Helen Yemm was very good Dotty . . . her talk was called "Downsizing without Tears". Two or three years ago she had to move out of a house with 2 acres (at short notice), and start again. Her new garden was cleverly done but not tiny - big enough for a decent size pond!

We visited Christopher Lloyds garden at Dixte, whilst on holiday in Eastbourne and his paths were over spilling with flowers it was lovely being so close to them;0)
