Just come across this Fuchsia & I love it! I've even added it to my favourites!

I have one that was labelled " Miss California" but it doesn't fit the description nor the photo on the label. In fact it looks a lot like this one though the flowers are quite big. When the sepals curve back it makes me think of a ballerina with her arms above her head!

Thanks for that Balcony........shall I root you a cutting?? It is a dainty small fuchsia and really pretty......:o)

Beautiful, must write it down on my wishlist :-)

Thank you very much for your offer, Janey! :-)

I'm about to try & root some cutting of the Fuchsias that survived through our terrible winter this year. I have lost, I think, ALL 5 plants of my Fuchsia Thalia! :-( Each of my 5 baskets had a Thalia in the centre & they have all died. Unless something has survived below soil level in the baskets. The other 4 plants in each basket has survived & have now begun to grow again. Weird!

Thats heart wrenching Balcony.....the winter just too much for the Thalia......there is no growth on the Star Wars either here.......I have lots on the Dahlia Lifestyle, you remember? I'll take a piece off as promised for you.........:o)

1 May, 2010

It's still a bit early but I think I have seen a growth bud or two on a couple of the plants after all. I'll have to have another look as it's been about a week since I last checked. The baskets are high above head level so I have to climb onto a chair to have a look.

Sorry to hear about your Fuchsias but give them a little longer, they may sprout from below soil level yet. That's where I think I saw the possible growth buds on my Thalia Fuchsias.

That looks like Delta's Sarah to me. I have just received one as part of a collection from Thompson & Morgan. It really DOES look beautiful - unusual colourings

31 May, 2010

Two out of my five Fuchsias Thalia have survived the winter. I had a look at the baskets a few days ago. The other four Fuchsias in each basket have survived as well - it seems like Thalia is the most delicate of them all. I shall try & make sure I have a few cutting this winter so that I don't lose it completely.

Barefootbrian.......It was labelled Star Wars...but is no more...dead as a dodo!
Yes you must Balcony.....you know, all the Fuchsias are well and growing strong, but not this little beauty...:o( I bought Ian a lovely pure white one..no hint of pink, with gorgeous variegated leaves...a real beauty...:o)

31 May, 2010

Janey, can you post a photo of the new Fuchsia you've bought? I'd love to see it! I once had a variegated one as well but its flowers weren't white. I have a photo of it I think amongst all my photos of Fuchsias.

Sorry to hear about your Fuchsia Star Wars dying on you. :-( This past winter was a terrible winter & I lost many plants as well.

Will do Balcony......

Janey, do you have a label for Fuchsia "Star Wars"? Just done a search for this Fuchsia but it is shown as pink & white, not blue & white like ours.

Have a look here: http://www.halcyonplants.co.uk/images/products/standard/477.jpg

Did a 2nd search, this time for Sarah's Delta. Have a look & tell me what you think:

I think this is my mysterious plant!

Hi Balc....for some reason I can't access these photos. I'll just have a look at Fuchsias in general.

15 Oct, 2010

Yes looking at Star wars it is more pink than ours, and Sarah's Delta on a couple of sites looks more like it, though another site has it as a double. Should be hardy, though mine was in the greenhouse and died. I did have the label, though I bet I threw it away with the plant....:o(

15 Oct, 2010

I just copied & pasted the links into my browser's address bar & they work just fine for me. They are the actual photos that were posted on these sites. The sites themselves don't open - only the photos.

Shame you threw the label out but on the other hand who wants to keep around old plant labels which have no further use.

It just comes up....this does not match any documents....Balc. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I've saved the label in another box I have, but I did clean the greenhouse out (for once!) about a month ago and got rid of lots of stuff....:o(

So beautiful Janey the colours are lovely .

Thanks Kathy....it's nice to see this one again....:) x

Delta's Sarah is very similar (certainly not double Janey, and I rather think its a bit hardier - I remember Hywel saying he had lost his Star Wars a couple of winters ago.) The only difference I can see is that the sepals don't curl up as far . Neither of them is in the least pink. Try looking for Delta's Sarah, which is its proper name though often printed the other way round for some reason. There are other Delta's fuchsias as well.(eg there is Delta's Groom)
Pictures of fuchsias on Google are really unreliable - sometimes lots of them are wrongly labelled or with poor colours and it makes identifying one a nightmare.

Hi Stera, fraid I haven't had this one for a few years now, I think I lost it along with others in that bad winter of 2010. I only have 3 non hardy fuchsias now, 2 Garden News which are spectacular right now, huge flowers! The other is Blackie, which I love, dark pink sepals and almost black underskirt, a beauty!

16 Nov, 2015

I don't know Blackie - sounds rather like my New Millenium, which is a bit lax and hangs over a low wall.
Yes, Garden News is lovely. Dollar Princess is a good one if you like frilly ones and is usually the first to come into flower.

16 Nov, 2015

Oh I remember Dollar Princess, it was one of the first fuchsias we grew and very vivid. My three are grown as standards and for GN, complements the large flowers I think, otherwise they're a bit out of proportion. Blackie has a plaited stem which gives it more support too.
