what attacks young dahlia plants in a greenhouse

I sowed 10 dahlia seeds ecently bought and put the seedlings in 3" pots in good compost. Then I placed them on a wire mesh table in the greenhouse. I even put some inside a seed tray still in their pots on the table. By morning all trace of plants was gone. What ate them?
