My Passiflora caerulea has taken a real beating this Winter, what a sorry sight it is. Question is what should I do i.e. cut it down or wait to see if it shoots? Many thanks, Dawn

Hi There Bob. Thank you, it's reassuring so hear that there might be hope for it. Not all of the stems are as green as this close-up but I'll be patient and keep my fingers crossed.

Often they will resprout from the roots. I had one in a small pot that someone gave me and it rooted through into a crack in the concrete floor. It sprouted for two years after the pot was moved!

Thanks Volunteer, I'm even more hopeful now.
Alice: I hope your's recovers too. I set it last Summer and it was gorgeous in the Autumn, covered in flowers, I dont want to lose it so soon.

There's hope - I can see it's still alive, Dawnsaunt. You may need to cut it back to new growth later on, but leave it till the weather's warmed (oh please, hurry up, lol) and you can see new growth coming.

Dear All
I cut the passion flower down but still no signs of growth. I decided to replace it with a Clematis armandii but to my delight when I put the spade in today I was delighted to see new shoots at the root, just below the surface, as you thought might be the case. Just to say thank you to you all for the advice you gave me, it was worth waiting.

Good news, but pity its taken so long - might be better next year, as I doubt we'll have such a harsh winter this time round (fingers crossed..)

Thanks Bamboo, I had given up hope to be honest. Let's hope we get a milder winter.

Hi Dawn, mine is in a similar state, leave it for a while and the dead leaves will protect the new growth and they will fall off naturally.
