Yup, Jacque's right - Latin name is Eschscholzia

Deadhead them but then leave a few pods on at the end of summer. Save some seeds from the long thin seed pods and sow them in autumn for overwintering or in spring.

Thanks folks, dead right! but what I find strange all the other poppies were under Papaver but as you say these are under Eschscholzia (Califonian Poppies) I would never have found them. Thanks a lot I will certainly save the seeds and try not to lose them again, I had them for a number of years self seeding. I don't know what ended them.

They are not really poppies - the common name is misleading in that respect but they do look vaguely like poppies so that's how the common name was coined. Similarly, the blue Himalayan poppy is meconopsis and the tree poppy is romneya
