A visit to gardeners world live ( a silly story). A few years ago my gardening friend and i went to the N.E.C to the gardeners world show. I must apolojise for all those of you who do not like Alan Titchmarsh. We both liked him on G.W. but Julie , my friend REALLY likes him.She had his latest book under her arm for him to sign at the book signing. The coach got us there too late for the first book signing but there was one later at 4pm so wasnt worried. He was also doing a talk in an enclosed area . The most important thing for me was to get round all the stalls and not miss anything out,. Spend, spend, spend! As you approach the G.W. entrance ,the first thing you see is a red carpet leading up to Alans stall. Picture this …Walking down this carpet ,we see Alan leaning on the counter with his hand on his chin smiling at us. Well, my friend is beside herself and i was quite excited myself. It was a long walk to his stand and he is still smiling at us .Thets when we definitely forgot how old we were and must confess started giggling like 2 school girls. We are almost there…what fools we felt as it was a very realistic lifesize cardboard cutout! To top this ,julie had left her programme in the creche and didnt know when the talk was. We ended up standing behind the barriers grinning like 2 cheshire cats. Never mind ,we thought she still has her book to be signed at the 4pm signing. But no, that didnt happen either as he was whisked off early by his minders.Just to finish the day off the way it started ,we were reprimanded by our driver because he didnt want to wait for the sale to start. The sale was at 5pm and we thought we might just dash round to pick up the bargains and was 15 mins. late. I dont think our hubbies will ever let us foget this. They couldnt wait to tell the story over and over again.

Hilarious! Our son has his very own cardboard 'double' from his student days working in a DIY store. Quite a shock when I first saw it as it's so very realistic . . . .

Great fan of Mr T, I also enjoy his books, gardening and novels. Sounds like a great day out you had even with a few mishaps thrown in.....

I agree those cardboard cutouts are very realistic. There's a policeman one in a local shop and I always think it a real policeman!! I'm not that fussed myself on AT - I can take him or leave him, but I've heard his books are a bit "saucy"!!?? lol

I too love Alan Titchmarsh always have done and love his little articles he writes in Gardeners World mag. I think you should both have gone to specsavers. What a giggle I can just see you both getting so excited, thought things like that only happened to me. Great story.
