Hello everyone , I'm back!

Are you all well ! Hasn’t it been a great summer ! So, as promised, although later than I intended due to the fantastic warm weather keeping me outside… my new garden !
As I was starting this garden from scratch, and had not been done for some time, I may have to do more than one blog. I’ll see how it goes, I don’t want you nodding off if its too long ! Hahaa!
So…where to start….I think I will show you how the main back garden was and go on from there.

Weeds and more weeds !

Including this dead shrub! The roots were in so deep that the only thing left to do after hours of digging was to chop it down and cover it with black polythene and put this chimney pot over it. This actually led to more ideas for designing the rest of the borders !

So, the first thing I did after realising that the wind swept down the drive into the garden was to make an evergreen hedge using shrubs I had bought with me from Willow Cottage. We both decided that it was the best place to start!

I might just add, that I was allowed to start work on the garden before we got the keys , which is why the conservatory is empty ! I followed the curve of the garden and then decided to put an arch way in to the entrance. Then, one thing leads to another and an idea forms ! So I’m on my way !

This border mostly consists of evergreens . The idea is that the hedge will grow quite high and shelter the garden. There are two different Laurels , one pyracantha , one variagated holly and one Osmanthus burkwoodii. I then topped the border up with compost and put in 3 Hypericum Rose of Sharon on the drive edge to add a bit of colour. Next to the conservatory is Achillea" The Pearl" which my dear friend Elizabeth ( who most of you remember as Libet ) sent me. As you can see from the photos, the first arbour seat (we brought both with us !) has been put into the far corner which is one of the sunniest corners, but more of that later ! This next picture is showing this border finished.

Considering I didn’t start the garden until the middle of May and then went away for a month until the end of June, I can’t believe how everything has grown so well here. Apart from all the weeds and bramble and twitch , the other big challenge was going from light sandy soil at Willow Cottage to heavy clay ! Every single border as I was clearing it was added loads of compost.
Now….where to show you next ! I think I will return to the two raised beds, not bored yet , I hope !
For two whole weeks before we went away, I just dug and weeded and weeded ! I thought I would never clear it all ! The next few pictures are showing the start and finish of these borders….

To the left you can see some of my roses which I did the cuttings of last year, waiting to go into the front garden. Now THAT was a big job ! That blog is for another day ! This is looking down to the back and the next one is looking up ! As I didn’t have room for my green houses here, I bought a little tomato house from our B&M’s for only £6.99! It took me ages to decide where to site it !

Looking across to these borders.

We positioned the second arbour seat at the top of this border and will show you more of this and the rest of the garden and finished borders in the next blog. I hope you have enjoyed the show so far ! Hahaa!

Hello Terra, nice to hear from you again. Are you well ? Yes we are both very happy , thank you. Its the best thing we could have done ! Wish we'd done it years ago ! Mind you. I might not be in this bungalow near my Mum and Dads old bungalow, if we had ! I just wish they were there now ! xxx

You've definitely done the right thing .. I haven't been on GoY much lately, but trying to get back into it more now ... xxx

Congratulations on what you have achieved in a very short time. Your happiness is shining through. Well done for being brave enough to make the move. I love it all.

My goodness Rose, what a transformation! You've worked wonders. In the years to come it's all going to look wonderful. Like yourself, when we moved to our present (and last) home, which is also a bungalow, we set to and revamped front and and back...I'm now on with my second go at the back, as it didn't turn out the way I wanted. It looks as if you won't have any such problems. All the hard work seems to be paying off. Well done :) I'm now looking forward to your next blog, with baited breath.

I'm so glad to see you Rose! It's lovely of you to share your new garden with us! Are you enjoying your new home? We are in the process of selling our house and buying a new place too, so I shall be AWOL for a while, but not yet, and then I'll also be back with a new garden! I like your idea of an evergreen hedge for a wind break.

Thanks Scottish, even we can't believe how good it looks now ! considering all the plants as well as being dug up had to contend with clay soil !

Thanks Marjorie, we love it here! Its like I've never been away !
Hello there Karen, nice to "see you" too ! I can't believe you've planted all those trees and got your garden looking lovely and now you're moving ! So, I'll have to look out for YOUR new garden. Are you planning on taking all your trees too ? Thanks for your lovely message. We love living here, Karen and the neighbours are all very nice. Some remember me from when I lived here with my parents from the age of 15 ! People seem to move here and never leave !
Thank you so much Grandmage. More blogs to follow !
Hello Sue, thanks , weren't we so lucky with the weather! We arrived back from our month in Turkey (couldn't wait to get back here) and the sun just shone and shone ! Some days I was outside working until 10pm ! The garden gets the sun all; day ! Isn't that just" grand !" Ooh, I'm starting to sound like Elizabeth ( Libet ) now ! Hahaa! I notice I often pick up on some of her Irish sayings !
