Raining.....again!!

Although rain was forecast for today – I was very disappointed to see the weatherman had not got it wrong!
Whilst watching the rain from the kitchen door I was contemplating just what I was going to do today – no fence painting, that’s for sure.
I could do a bit of tidying up and weeding…that thought soon removed itself from my head!
I don’t know about you but I always think that the best time to sit and look at the garden is when it is or has been raining. It even smells lush too!
I try not to look at the droopy flower heads….
Whatever I decide to do I’m gonna get wet….the choice was made – an early autumn deck clean. A job made much earier this year since the neighbours have had their very large Birch Tree removed.
Out I went, spent ages looking for the old watering can I use to apply the deck cleaner – why are things never where you leave them?
Whilst walking around the garden – admiring the lushness – I thought I would share it with you all.
Hydrangea foliage still looking great!
Raindrops on the Fatsia
The Rhododendrons enjoying a rainfall foliar feed!
Deck all cleared and swept off…..apply the cleaner and brush in….wait 30 minutes! What to do for 30 minutes?
Sitting on the back step…yes bum was wet! I started to notice all the other effects the rain has on the garden.
A few spider webs around the garden – no spiders in these shots so those who don’t like spiders need not look away!
Looking through the apple tree!
Making a nice frame
Creating a little bridge between the box and the physocarpus
Some more raindrops….
Alchemilla Mollis…flowering again!
Clematis Flower Bud
Raindrop on Cotinus
The Euphorbia looks like it has been dipped in sugar!
Luscious Lobilia!
Lupin Foliage still looking great…no flowers left though!
The tiny hairs on the foliage of the poppy capture the raindrops
My new pansy for winter!!
Sedum looking like it has been frozen in ice!
The tiny raindros rest in the flowers of the Verbena
And last but not least the nodding head of a Yellow Pansy
I think the raindrops create some gorgeous pictures…I hope you enjoy sharing them with me!
Thanks for reading my blog and you will be pleased to know that the rain finally stopped and the sun came out. Fence all dried off – out came the paintbrushes and paint….a woman’s work is never done!!

Lovely photos Scottish, I also think the garden looks gorgeous after the rain, love your web pics, there like crystal chandaliers (spelling) I went for a walk round my back garden tonight and it had a lovely glow that you only get in autumn, took some pics with my old camera as the newer better one is broke, I cant view them as my card reader is now broke, not too worried as i dont think they came out well. You captured the colour of your garden brilliantly :)

I agree it always looks so fresh and clean, your photo`s are really good, I love the web shots and the rain drops on the foliage are really lovely.

Thanks Numbty, Lil and Daisy.
You will notice there are more pictures since you viewed this...I hit the publish button by mistake!!
Yes Numbty....mother nature is fascinating. At the risk of sounding sexist, a man couldn't do half as much :)
Lil....I like to keep myself busy, I have sunny and wet jobs lined up for tomorrow! Of too brothers for a meal tomorrow night, so may not be up for doing much on Sunday!!
The garden is gorgeous at this time of the year isn't it Daisy - shame about your camera. I dont have a camera, I just use my phone. I have one on my list for Santa :)
Apparently we do have winds forecast on Monday - my son's girlfriend just informed me, whilst she was rubbing it in that they were off to Cyprus on Wednesday.
...and yes the decking came up OK. It really needs treated with something now, but I can't make my mind up which colour I like. That will wait til next year now!

Lincslass, sitting on the back step is always where I sit and contemplate....I sit here when I first get up in the morning and enjoy the sun. I don't have a little seat in this area to enjoy the morning sun. Nothing worse than knowing you have something but not being able to put your finger on it immediately! Thanks for your lovely comments.
Thanks for reading Bloomer and thanks for the compliments.
The rain hasn't been too bad this week - short showers, so have been able to get lots done. But that's another blog!! Glad you had better weather and got all your jobs done.

Oh now you're just showing off! Haha, those photographs were absolutely incredible. I'm completely bowled over by the two "Creating a little bridge between the box and the physocarpus" shots. But all of it's great. I enjoyed the edging of the smokebush and the pool at the centre of the euphorbia.
Oooh, have you given your angry bronze man a name?
Keep shooting! x

Beautifully captured photos. I love rain, and never complain about it, although we have had a bit too much this summer. I'm glad the sun finally came out for you :o)

Thanks Tralamander....for your comments :) He doesn't have a name yet...just 'Kooki's mate', he sits and stares at it. I think it is in the way when he goes under the path and he gets ratty when he doesn't move!
Terratoonie, thank you :)
Karen, thank you for you kind words. I've decided to dedicate all the paint work going on to the workers on the Forth Bridge, who will be 'finally' finished painting it for the next 25 years. Did you /readhear it on the news over there?
That will be with a fag and a coffee Pixi :) Hope you had a good day out at your dads :)
Hywel...thank you very much for your nice comments :)
10 Sep, 2011

10 Sep, 2011
No, Scottish! Do you mean that they're going to stop? What does that mean for the bridge??
11 Sep, 2011
I saw it on TV,Scottish..some kind of new paint that will last for that length of time,I believe..
11 Sep, 2011
Oh! Well, let's hope it works...or, if it doesn't, that they find out in time...poor painters, not a job for life now...
I remember crossing that bridge in a steam train, driven by my Grandad...
11 Sep, 2011
Well at leaast it might look nice! always there is scaffolding all over it..but I do feel for all the workers who will be out of a job..some have worked there for yearsssssssss! I can see the two bridges from my studio window..well most of them.

13 Sep, 2011
Soooh! All the same there, then....................! lol!
13 Sep, 2011
Lol,Scottish, and Karen.... as this was the bog standard comment by most of the teachers..I sort of guessed a lot of us got this :o).I remember staring out of the window,as the lesson was sooo boring, and the Blackboard rubber came flying across my desk,as the teacher said "yes,Sandra, they are cows" !..I felt like replying that I knew,as there was one standing in front of me..can you imagine if I had ?? Detention for ever !! Lol.
13 Sep, 2011
Aaaah, Bloomer! Sharp intake of breath! Unimaginable!!...
...and worse waiting at home, if it ever happened!!!!!!
Do you remember when the sellotape tin was the precursor of the 'frisbee'??....In the teacher's hand, not good! :(((
13 Sep, 2011
Anything on the teacher's desk was the precursor to the frisbee was it not :))
We had a biology teacher who used to through bull's eyes at pupils who were not paying attention....ah school days - great, no worries, no cares and no idea!!!!!
13 Sep, 2011
Oh yes,Karen..and that wooden ruler across the knuckles!not good either...
13 Sep, 2011
OMG LOL! I think we are all of the same ilk! lolol
I got a blackboard duster thrown at me for reading a book ( about pixies and elves by the way) It missed me by about 1/2'' ! If it had hit me he would have knocked me out for sure!
Because my friend and I were always talking in class(she was clever and had no need to pay too much attention whereas I wasnt and should have lol) we decided to learn the deaf and dumb alphabet..so when we wanted to talk we would cough to get attention then say whatever in sign language. I was away at the back of the class by this time..Lynn was at the front. One day she was coughing trying to get my attention and Mr Millar was standing right besdie her desk ( she hadnt noticed) so I ignored her lol, then he said what on earht are you doing girl! get over to my room at once and wait there! it was playtime..he told me to wait behind..asked what was going on..i thought Lynn will tell the truth so I told him..he smiled slightly and said off with you out and play! When he asked Lynn who was waiting in his room..she had thought Carol will lie..so she made up some silly excuse about having a bad cold ..she got 3 of the belt and kept in for break! lolol
See it pays to tell the truth...or does it...
13 Sep, 2011
I would have done the same as Lynn :)
13 Sep, 2011
So would I... :)
14 Sep, 2011
Normally so would I but as she was always such an honest person I thought omg what is she going to say..she will tell the truth no doubt..ah well..she ended up wi the sair arse! lol
14 Sep, 2011
Lol,Pixi..what are friends for? :o))
14 Sep, 2011
Great pics, Scottish. How did you manage with the winds? The gales did not seem as bad as was expected - although we did have 72 mph winds recorded locally! It did not seem as bad as the May storms. Got some cotinuses (cotini?) that have been loosened but fortunately, I got out and trimmed back the most leggy perennials and the staking on my young rowan seemed to do the job this time around.
18 Sep, 2011
Thanks Somhaile....painting fences in such wind is not recommended for those with a nervous disposition :)
Was on annual leave and what turned out to be painting and putting up 2 trellis ended up being all the fences, shed, more trellis....the list goes on.
All should be finished by this weekend, I hope!!
21 Sep, 2011
My goodness that's a power of work, Scottish! I knew by your absence that something big was happening!
We should get to see before I go? :))
22 Sep, 2011
I think so Karen.....I'll try get a blog done over the weekend. I came back to work for a rest :))

Things in common with the Rainy City then? Spiderwebs are fantastic...Nothing beats Cotinus and raindrops.
28 Feb, 2012
Yes. I think we have that in common too! Yes nothing much beats the Cotinus in the rain. It's raining here as we speak P :)
28 Feb, 2012
