Why all the questions?

I had a lovley pm from a newish member today asking why we answered questions with even more questions.

I sent quite a lengthy reply explaining how information is vital if we are to give the best advice possible.

Then tonight my own daughter asked what the yellow flower was in the garden. I said if there are more than one to bring me one in.

This is the flower. So what do you think it is just from the photo?

27 Jun, 2012

How about some questions, then?!

How tall is it? Can you post a picture that gives some idea of the scale? Can you show us what the leaves are like?

But I haven't a clue if none of the above answers are correct!

Could be rose of Sharon :)

Same as Andrew, Welsh Poppy

Just a flower like this could be so many things unless you have more details as we see from above......
5 petals....part of the Rosace genus.....?
Bit like my canary bird rose and a little like the yellow potentilla, fascinating Seaburn!

My immediate thought was poppy?

28 Jun, 2012

it is 3 ft tall, lives in water. leaves are lanceolate. seed head is an achene.
non of the plants suggested are correct and its not rosacea either.

but it just goes to show how vital info is.
I will post the answer tonight after work.

28 Jun, 2012

I think you've got it, Dawnsaunt.

28 Jun, 2012

Hi Mel, the big clue was it sits in water plus mine are flowering right now too :).

28 Jun, 2012

Well done Dawn.....is it still standing , my flowers have taken a battering today.....

28 Jun, 2012

well done Dawnsaunt spot on.
but once we had more information wasnt it easier to identify.

so why do we ask more question? because it helps sort out what we are talking about.

thanks for playing along folks.

Hooray!
I agree, so difficult to help with questions without obtaining further information. :)
