Why do they have to be correct?

I remember a time when the weather forecasters always seemed to get it wrong. If they forecast a nice dry sunny day it rained, if forecast rain, it didnt.

Well they still get it wrong, nice tomorrow they said on Monday…. no chance, cold, grey and dull.
Snow by 3pm today was promised . Wrong it started at 1.30. It is now 3.10 and the whole area is white over.

I wouldnt care but I had started clearing the debris from a side border that had 2 crab apples removed in October. I even managed to plant the Ceris Avondale that has been happy in a pot for several years. I managed to recut the grass edges then I noticed small white sprinkles.

Before starting work in the border I went looking for crocuses as I notice lots of you have them out already. Found one :o)

Then I noticed this pale pink hellebore, a baby from a dusky pink x white H.x hybrid.

Then this one that I planted 3 years ago.

Headed off into the greenhouse to pot up a small piece of Pachyphragma that I cut off by mistake. I also had some Bergenia to pot up. After 20 mins I was so cold I couldnt feel my toes.
H.niger ‘Christmas Carol’ gaining her dusting of snow

and the greenhouse at 2.30pm

So I’m indoors with a coffee watching an old Time Team from Caerleon. My daughter is at Newport uni and lives on campus at Caerleon.

Forecasters say it will be all gone and raining tomorrow. We will see.

Looks about the same as here......and still snowing, supposed to be +5c by midnight?

No snow here and I hope we don't get any.I'm hoping for a drier spell as I have a lady who's rung me a couple of times, desperate for me to go and sort her garden out.I think she'd been ill last autumn and it didn't get done.

I'm glad they are getting it wrong at the moment - we keep getting told that the 'next' snow fall will be the worst and to brace ourselves......that's a joke - so far I think we've been promised bad snow every week for the last goodness knows how many. We've been very lucky here in Edinburgh (so far) this winter!
I've quite a few things 'just about' to flower so I'm hoping by next week I'll have something to blog about.
Your hellebores are lovely and it's nice to see your crocus flower. What a lovely big greenhouse you have, lucky lady :)
I hope you have thawed out now!

They got it right here and we are white over yet again, its bitterly cold, that was right as well, hoping they continue to be right as they said heavy snowfall today followed by rain and then much warmer for the rest of the week, now that would be a treat..
Nice things happening in your garden Seaburn and I agree even the g`house was too cold to work in, I can`t set seeds with gloves on and don`t like hotaches, BRRRRRRR...

Ohhhh, that greenhouse!!! There is twenty feet of it in the photo, drool, drool.
We had snow during the day but it then turned to rain and is now dry. I hope that it is all clear by tomorrow as we are due to drive over the Grampians to Dunblane for the weekend. Drummochter was really bad today although the road was still open.

since I posted the blog we now have it 2" deep and still it falls. They have been wrong in as much as we have had more than they said we'd get.
The greenhouse is 2 10x8 fastened together. So yes 20ft long. When we moved here there was a 10x8 minus its glass and then the one we had left behind wasnt needed. So OH dismantled it moved it and reassembled it. He toyed with the idea of having them as 2 separates but I fancied them together. He also agreed better together once up and running. The only draw back was the cost of heating it. I dont bother now.

Nice and warm now. Toria cooked a Jalfrieizy from the Hairy Dieters cook book. 6 green chillies hot hot hot [grew them last year and froze them to see us through the winter months] So mouth is glowing nicely too.

Sadly the ground was just drying out nicely for digging. We will have to wait for it to thaw and drain away again.

We had the Met Office here in Bracknell for many years, so our forecast was always right (they only had to look out of the window and then call it a forecast!). But then they moved 150 miles away to Exeter and now, more times than not, it's wrong here. Today it wasn't supposed to snow until after dark, but when I got off the train at 4:15pm, it had already started.

Weather men tend to go over the top and predict far worse Weather than we will get this I reckon since Michael Fish got it very wrong in Oct 1987

I agree with Steveg, they are so afraid of getting it wrong and downplaying it that now its gone the other way!I live near Oxford [not renowned for deep snow]and everyone panics if we have a couple of inches, which coming from Yorks. makes me laugh. All through the fifties and most of the sixties I remember deep-ish snow EVERY Winter, but most people trudged to work and school in their wellies.Buses managed to run and so did trains. Also No central heating, but somehow people managed.

I've noticed over the years, Michael Fish has changed his excuse as well. No doubt it was the wrong type of wind ....

Great photos of your garden waking up. In some ways I think this is the best time in the garden as there is such promise of things to come.

well it rained all night but it isnt warm enough yet . So the ground is glassy underfooot, and all the green spaces are white. So it looks as if I might be taking daughter into the city [hull] shopping. Boohoo, no gc there.

I do love watching the garden wake up and everyones on here too.

I think we are all getting impatient to get out there and get going - I know I am but every time I step outside down here in Devon everything is wet and cold and all grassy areas soon become a mud patch AND I've just had tonsilitis AND it stopped me going to Bruges so I am not the happiest of bunnies!
What a difference a warm sunny day would make!

Have to say our weather report has been correct, it poured down from approx 1am and washed all our white stuff away, the sun has been shining for most of today, my youngest daughter is on holiday this week, she is as keen on gardening as I am and the sunshine changed her plans for the day, she rang early this morning to say she was off to Homebase for seed compost and did I need some, we came out with seed potato`s, perlite and the obligatory tray of primroses as well..
I've been around with my long handled fork and turned the earth in my beds and borders,( magic tool as its far too wet otherwise,) done a bit more cutting back of perennials and planted my new flowers, also made a start in the greenhouse with winter salad, sweetpeas and lobelia, potato's also laid out for chitting...
Good mood returned, LOL....
