I do wish plant fairs were banned!

Now before you throw your hands in the air in horror I am only joking.
I went to an NGS garden at Everingham East Yorks today and I must say the garden continues to develop. Its 5 yrs since I was last there and the spring bulbs are stunning. Now at this point I must apologise; I forgot to pick up my camera [ I hang my head in shame]
However the proprietor had also organised a rare plant fair. There must have been close to a dozen stalls and naturally I couldn’t resist buying.
I will do another blog later with pictures of my purchases. Again some more shady ladies,[amonella, epimedium, saxifrage, erythronium, blood root] and some for sunnier spots a shrubby honeysuckle with deep pink flowers, verbena with a greyish foliage, semiaquilegia and a silybum.
What I haven’t done is work out exactly what I spent. Why I hear you ask. simple if I don’t know when OH asks I can be honest and say ‘I don’t know. I have change in my purse so not all of it’. Sneaky :o) Well I don’t like telling fibs and this way I don’t have too :o)
I will try and get photos added during the week.

My late wife used to say " what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine"....Pure communism in our home.

Hi Eileen
Money well spent. Glad you had a good day.
Marjorie ?

Something brilliant that gives you pleasure and exercise....and no calories ?

Yep, it's online plants that make me spend money though I rarely, if ever, come away with nothing from fairs, garden centres or anywhere else that sells plants. It's an addiction, isn't it, but one of the nicer ones.
I love Erythronium and in my previous garden had a few clumps, mostly yellow and one of pink. I brought some with me when we moved here and they seem to be doing okay, as are the snakes head Fritillaria.
Glad you couldn't resist, Seaburn.

I like it, lol, very rarely I go with hubby, when I do its because we need something expensive like new pond pump or filter, naturally there's always some plants that are very much admired and have to go in the trolley whilst we are over there, he pays on those days.
When I'm with Juliet I spend any cash I have only using my debit card if its birthday present time, that way I do not go overboard or tell myself I haven't.....The fact that I often have to visit the cash dispenser firstso therefore just might have drawn an extra tenner does not come into it at all, lol.....

Lol Lincs, of course it doesn't!
Sbg thank you for this blog because the title made me remember to check when out local one is due and I would have missed it!

I am so glad I am not alone in this. there seems to be a proliferation of plant fairs these days which is very good of course.
Harrogate spring fair in a couple of weeks too, need to go to that one on the Sunday this year as I am busy on the Saturday.
any one here going on the sunday? if yes and you fancy a get together over coffee send me a pm :o)

Lovely idea and I do like Harrogate but, sadly, Seaburngirl, it would take me several hours to get there! I shall think of you instead.

Look at that it would be rude to travel to a plant fair and not buy something, apart from the cost of getting there, which you have to offset by a purchase!
When you watch the make-over garden shows and see what the eventual cost is you can in all honesty tell the OH that you don't spend THAT much!

Last summer I drove all the way to Mickfield Hostas on a day when there was also an open garden/plant fair in the same (general) area. I took a set amount of cash so that I couldn't get carried away and I would have stuck to it (honest) if only Mickfields hadn't taken plastic! I was very good at the National Memorial plant fair where it was cash only on the stalls.

ah well the plastic doesn't come out with me at plant fairs for that very reason. :o)

Now you see...you say that, but Plant Fairs are probably safer than online shopping...you take cash and spend it. I get so carried away online! :)) Anyway....its all investment in a future of beauty and unlike savings these days, at least it grows!
