The last 2 weeks in my garden

What with the warmth, rain and the cold the garden plants don’t know if they are coming or going. Many are doing very well and of course the weed seeds have germinated extremely well.

The paeonies are doing well:
Molly the Witch

P lutea

Promise of a P tenuissima flower

P maculata

The borders that were tidied back in Feb/March have filled out nicely.
Atrocity corner in April

Down the side of the neighbours drive: April

Triangular bed today

Side drive border today

The other side of the drive under the lounge window. the wisteria has 5 buds in it.

The Lamprocapnos [formerly Dicentra] spectabilis are doing really well:
the standard pink, then Valentine and alba.

Although finished now the Erythronium did very well this year.
Kinfanus Pink, White beauty and Pagoda were 3 that did particularly well.

Just to finish up a few plants doing their thing today.
Cammassia

Self seeded Cerinthe

Ground cover under the beech tree Lamium Pink Chablis

The Beech tree as it is opening its leaves ready to plunge the borders into deep shade.

I had planned to do a bit of weeding today but it is raining off an on and we have just had a hailstone downpour. Poor hosta leaves have lots of holes in them.
Guess the house work beckons :o(

Love the delicate erythronium flowers, peony blooms very pretty too!
Don’t think I’ve seen the erythronium before.

their common name is dog tooth violet and the yellow pagoda are regularly in the garden centres from March onwards. though you can buy the 'bulbs' in the autumn. cheaper that way too.

Lovely. I do love the camassia. I have never had the space for them. We had a couple of short showers today, but mostly sunny. Still cold, but a tiny bit milder in the sunshine.

Your garden is looking beautiful. Much further on than here.
Today is sunny but really cold. I think you sent it to us Karen.

Sorry Linda! I meant tosay...love that p.tenuissima foliage. I have lost my cambessedesii
, but have flower buds on one that has never flowered before, which is very exciting!

My P cambessedesii never came through its first winter Karen. which one do you have in bud Karen. I love this genus of plants.

Your borders have done well Seaburn, do like your Paeonies and aren't your Dicentra lovely, mine used to be lovely years back but never seem to do well for me now, I don't know why, guess I just haven't found as good a spot as they used to be, unfortunately that is now where my g'house is, lol..Love to see the Erythronium, such a pretty flower..
Not a lot of gardening going on here at the moment but the weather has warmed up a bit today so living in hope for this week...

All lovely, especially the Erithroniums and the Camassia. Your beds are really showing the benefit of all that weeding you did earlier! I'm still plodding on with the weeding. Filled one compost bin (the one two slow worms have moved into)and ready to start on another...

No rain here but bloomin cold. Love the foliage on the P tenuissima. I've been pulling out huge self sown Cerinthe and white flowered Borage.

It's all very lovely, your persicaria is huge, looks great.

I think its P.lactiflora ‘Cherry Hill’ but can’t be sure till it flowers as I have three that all look the same. None of them have flowered yet, but they are still quite small. They don’t seem to be bulking up like Doreen and cytherea which have both been flowering for two years and will flower again soon. Last week I treat myself to a purple P. Suffruticosa. But its quite small. The foliage is as lovely as the flowers, so I’m happy to wait.

Your garden is looking lovely love the Cammassia and your Peonys.

Like the Epimedium Karen, the leaves do it for me

7 May, 2019

Funny you should say that Dawn. One of my epimediums has got spectacular orangey leaves. I’ll get a pic tomorrow!

7 May, 2019

I too love the foliage on Epimediums, but I'm blowed if I can see one in SBgiirl's pics.

No Sue...we got side-tracked! ;)

It's looking lovely Seaburn. When I look at a border earlier on (after I've weeded it) I tend to see all the spaces (Yipee! another plant!) but forget just how much room some of them need. So you have done well, been patient and well behaved and your border is filling up nicely. Dog-toothed violets are wonderful, I only have the ordinary one, if you can call something so exotically shaped, ordinary! I like Cerinthe Siris! But understand it can take over if it is extremely happy.

8 May, 2019

Karen, I'll look out for your picture.

I agree Epimedium leaves are amazing. all the new foliage is so pretty at the moment. Some of mine have a reddish hue to them.

8 May, 2019

Your garden is thriving, everything seems to be growing back nicely.
I didn't know they had changed the name of Dicentra to whatever it is. I'll never remember it !
I love Erithroniums and want to get some more for next year. You have a nice pink one.

9 May, 2019

Hywel, I remember from a few years ago, you had a yellow flowering Osteospermum, was it perennial?

9 May, 2019

Seaburn, I meant to say your peony look great :)

9 May, 2019

Hi Dawn, it wasn't a hardy perennial. It lasted a few years because I put it in a shed for winter but it has died now.

9 May, 2019

Arhh I see Hywel, I've only seen pink perennial ones. Shame it's now in plant heaven.

9 May, 2019

Yes I agree Dawn, I've never seen another one.
