My lucky day!

As some of you know from my profile, I run a gardening group with over 30 members. It is very friendly and great fun . . . we take it in turns to visit one of our gardens once a week, swap cuttings and seeds etc. over coffee and biscuits (sometimes cake!), and go on trips. Earlier this year there was a visit to Helmingham Hall, and in a week’s time we’re going to Capel Manor.
Well, I have done it for ten years, and decided last week to give myself a break. I’ve enjoyed it, but thought we might be in a bit of a rut, and a new organiser might bring fresh ideas, so I’m still a member but have no responsibilities. :))
At last week’s meeting when I was handing over, I was amazed to be presented with a bundle of vouchers to be spent at Garden Centres . . . what generous friends they are! So I feel incredibly lucky to be able to go and choose something special, perhaps something that I would not normally feel was affordable.
As you can imagine, the possibilities are endlessly exciting, and I keep changing my mind . . . a lovely Acer perhaps, a cloud-pruned bonsai? I’m sure you could offer some imaginative suggestions!

what a wonderful handful of vouchers, if I had all those I would not know how to spend them, you can buy some great plants or something else for the garden, such kind friends you have,

Some kind of structure would be nice, that you could grow a few climbers up.

Thank you very much for your comments Yorks, Grandma and Cinders . . . luckily there's no "end date" on them, so I can take my time!

Isn't that lovely, Ooooh choices, There's plenty reductions this time of year :))), if your thinking of pots or trellis, new bench etc, hold on for a couple of weeks, they will be greatly reduced, whatever you choose you will get lots of enjoyment knowing how you come to buy them..

I saw a lovely standard cotoneaster today for exactly that amount Sheila, but i'll never pay that for a plant after my standard holly died last winter. Perhaps a nice bit of statuary, or one of those gorgeous pots that are soooooo expensive, perhaps two matching pots for that! Wonderful present, I would have been thrilled to bits too. Well done for knowing it was time to hand over the reins and well done for keeping it up for 10 years! :)) Enjoy!

Lucky lucky you, what nice friends you have.

Lovely to hear from you Young Daisy, Karen, Resi, Kfunsters and Grannyb, and thank you for your kind comments!
Not enough for a new bench, but I like the idea of something permanent, particularly pots. I didn't know any of them before I started the group, but it was a good way to acquire new friends, lol!

What about a mirror in the garden?

Definitely your lucky day, Sheila and just goes to show that your ten years in office have been appreciated. ....... You may find some GCs have ''''Seasonal Clearance' sales on right now, not only plants, but accesories for the garden too. ....... Choose something you have always hankered after, but couldn't justify the cost ... lol! Have fun in your search ... :o))

Thank you so much Shirley and Joanella . . . excellent advice. :o)))
I've always hankered after a Japanese garden, Shirley, it will have to be in miniature, lol!
Not a mirror, Sticki, I wouldn't like to catch sight of myself!

I can understand that cos I wouldn't like to do that myself but I love that mirror annella has put in.

Well done Sheila, ten years is a long time to run things and your friends obviously appreciated your efforts, have fun spending your vouchers, I bet there is something special you have a yearning for and have put aside because of the price, now you can go for it without the guilt trip...

I certainly think you deserve a rest now Sheila, now you can have all the fun without the responsibility! Your friends certainly think the world of you, because as well as giving you all that money, they've given you the joy of the anticipation of what to use it for as well!
I like the sound of a pair of really nice pots, that you can plant up differently each season! So, have a think and have fun!!

Whatever you choose Sheila your friends obviously think you deserve something special for all the effort you have put in over the last ten years.

Lucky You! I would definitely go for something permanent - something that you may not have previously justified paying out for - like a stone urn, for example. Lovely with a phormium surrounded by trailing lobelia...... just a thought. :o)

Just catching up Sheila, what a lovely gesture and no doubt richly deserved. Your efforts have brought together like minded people and enriched all their lives as well as your own. I hope you let us know what you decide upon:-)

That's a lovely thing to say Ba - thank you! I have already bought a VERY lightweight spade, which I'd searched for for years, and have plenty of vouchers left, so will certainly let you know. :))

Hi Youngdaisy! Bit late in the day, sorry, but did you ever buy a Lady Fork too?? I have been looking for one, but no luck so far. Thanks. x

Sheila I would have thought most GC sell lady forks, I have one but not sure where it came from LOL. Had it years, thats why!
ps. just looked on e.bay, they have lots of 'garden ladies border fork' take a look!
15 Oct, 2011
Oooh thank you Grandma! My local GCs don't seem to sell them, and I'm timid about e bay, but will take a look.
15 Oct, 2011
Ooooooh dont be shy about e.bay Sheila I am very bold on there now and have even sold some things too! But these forks I saw were very reasonable.
