Northern Lights! Not many people know this . . .

. . . but they have been seen in the last few days in Northumberland and parts of Scotland: Gairloch, and places near St Andrews.
So, lucky you if you live that far north – maybe you will see the wonderful colourful lights in the night sky. There are some pictures on the BBC News website.

I'll have a look out for them tonight, because we have a clear sky. I've seen them a few times before but they are always a wonder.

Wonderful Sheila, I would love to see them.

Shall we all get on a train together, and go and see Karen, lol?!

They announced on the Scottish news tonight that there is a good chance of seeing them again tonight.

When I was at university in St.Andrews I remember seeing the lights during the dusk walking down South Street (I had no idea we could see them in the UK). It was like the rainbow colours you see in oily water, slightly fuzzy rainbow, nice. I'll look out tonight and take a photo if I see (little light pollution where I live, which helps).

Nothing here tonight. :o(

I saw them on our local news last night..they had a wonderful sighting on the top of Tan Hill,in the Dales..at one of the highest pubs in the country,. A few were waiting last night as well,in case it appeared again..What a great thing to see..

I looked on the BBC news website Sheila and then on the images, fantastic photos, what a sight that would be to see!

Sorry people, I went out but didn't see anything. I think perhaps we went out too early. :( oh well, maybe next time.....disappointed :(
24 Jan, 2012
...oh but :)))) I did see the Milky Way! :))))
24 Jan, 2012
:)))))))))))) I saw it on TV..lol

It's just something we shall never see down here :-((((, but we do get good shooting stars in summer. We are lucky to have very little light pollution out here in the wilderness.

Latest news - in the newspaper today it was said that tomorrow (Wednesday, 25th), Thursday and Friday could well be the best nights for a sighting . . . even as far south as London! So find yourselves a bit of high ground away from light pollution if poss, and fingers crossed. :))
Certainly last night was a fabulous clear, starry night when I was still awake at 1.00 am!
24 Jan, 2012
great, thanks sheila!

Wouldn't it be a treat if we actually saw them Sticki?! We'd never forget a sight like that . . .
24 Jan, 2012

24 Jan, 2012

I heard the forecast tonight, so I rather doubt any of you saw anything - all that cloud and rain, too. Will there be other chances later on? Such a shame.
24 Jan, 2012
All I saw on Monday night was a fuzzy greenness to the north and it did not photograph. It was too cloudy yesterday :(. I think that you have to be further north and east and rural to see it clearly.
25 Jan, 2012
what sort of time should you look out for them?
25 Jan, 2012
I don't know for sure Sticki, but it seems to be just chance - any time that the sky is dark!
25 Jan, 2012
ok, thank you, going out this evening so will take camera too!!!
if i can find my way in the cloud!!!
