As good as a holiday - evening sunshine in the garden!

After a day of crazy mixed-up weather (sunshine and showers) it was lovely to be able to take a chair into the garden and just sit and enjoy a peaceful evening.

Looking up

The Whitebeam – always handsome

My view as I happily sat with a glass of pink wine beside me, and a few crisps :) (on my own, but knowing I would have virtual company later, lol)

Now I’ll take you on a brief tour . . . this is one of my favourite grasses, Hakonechloa macra

Blue perennial Geranium

I like this plant, and it is close to my purple “cow parsley” (Anthriscus ‘ravenswing’) but the leaves of that are more delicate, so I’m not sure what this is.

Campanula glomerata

Sidalcea

and a lovely Stipa ‘tenuissima’ like the one Stickitoffee showed us in her Herefordshire gardens blog!

I was lucky to be able to enjoy these quiet moments on a warm evening: thank you for joining me.

Brilliant!! Beautiful garden to go with it! We had similar weather to you, then the sun came around lunch time and stayed till now, wonderful...got to do some weeding..no time to sit for me, have not been able to garden properly for more than a week now.

Your lawn looks wonderful as do the lovely selection of plants. We are very grateful for just a sign of summer aren't we?

Ours has been better today as well Sheila but its turned really cold here, still grand to see the sunshine though, your garden is looking lovely and I don`t blame you for sitting outside even if only for a short while, crisps and a glass of something sounds like a real treat, so make the most of it...

Thanks everyone. Glad I did Lincs (and fitted in some weeding this afternoon too), as just an hour later, the sky was black and the rain sheeting down. Ridiculous weather!!

It's poured here since 3pm but fine for a while around 7pm so I went out and tidied and sat down...immediately a neighbour started playing his drums! lol....typical. Just as well I like to hear any instrument being practised, even drums....even bagpipes! (he plays them too). Now, I know what the purple leafed perennial is as I have it myself...begins with A...Actaea...that's it! Actea simplex. Flowers later on, likes shade. Lovely thing, very fragrant.

Actually, not sure it is that now! lol :)

Lovely blog Sheila. Pleased you enjoyed your peace and quiet!

So pleased for you that you got some sun and a wee while to enjoy your garden, which is looking lovely.

Thank you Sheilar and Oji! Oh Karen . . . at first I wondered if "that purple thing" was what used to be called Cimicifuga?? (and now possibly Actaea?). I'll have to wait and see if it has a tall white flower spike - that would confirm it :)

Oh Karen - drums AND bagpipes......

11 Jul, 2012

Looks lovely. Glad you got to enjoy it for a bit.

Lovely sweeping lawns! Pea-green with envy over your greenhouse! Glad you enjoyed the sunshine along with your Rosada. :o)

12 Jul, 2012

Thank you Lil and Nariz. (Good word - Rosada - might remember that: more in fridge!)

Yup, that's my neighbourhood Melchi. Lots of children doing their thing. Still, I love the sound of any instrument being played so it's not a problem. It's the swearing at the front on the improvised footie pitch that I can't bear. But that's at the front so I don't often hear it, especially not this year with the 'footie pitch' being a permanent bog!

Sheila, yes, Cimifuga, that's another name isn't it. I had a nice glass of Rhone last night....lovely! No sunshine though :(

I wouldn't mind if the weather fairies only gave me one day of sunshine if I could have a garden like yours Sheila, it is georgous.
Good for you to go out there & just sit & stare :-)

Oh Willi - thank you! Yes, I'm a lucky so and so. And this morning a book FINALLY arrived which I'm supposed to have read by this evening (Book Group meeting), so I shall have to spend all day reading (in the garden hopefully, and save GoY till tomoz . . .

I think you're probably right about the various background noises, Karen!

12 Jul, 2012

Lovely space you have there, its all looking great. And blue sky as well! A rarity for this time of year! Lol

12 Jul, 2012

So, did you finish your book in time?

12 Jul, 2012

Thank you Suzy.
Yes, Lil, I did . . . that's a first! I have never read a whole book in one day before - it arrived at 11.30 am and I finished it at 7.00 pm, just breaking for a cuppa and a teacake now and then(!) Didn't skim either: it was "House of Silk" by Anthony Horowitz. I'm now home at 11.30pm having enjoyed the monthly book group discussion, and the book was very good by the way - a Sherlock Holmes pastiche. What are you currently reading, Lil?

12 Jul, 2012

I have been debating ordering 50 Shades of Grey. Don't know if I can take it though after all I've heard ;)
Last book I read was Freedom by Jonathen Franzen. brilliant writer!

12 Jul, 2012

OH was given that ("House of Silk") by eldest for Fathers' Day - he said it was excellent.

12 Jul, 2012

I wouldn't bother with 50 Shades Lil, apparently it's very badly written (which is not the point, I know, but still . . maybe life is too short?!). I must read some Franzen - I confuse him with Jonathan Safran Foer: "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" was clever and very originial.

Are you going to read "House of Silk" Mel? It's a quick read, and intriguing: apart from one nasty bit near the end, I recommend it.

13 Jul, 2012

I think I might, Sheila!

13 Jul, 2012

Ladies.... 50 shades is a must read! :O
