Cambridge Botanic Garden ... a rare day out

This lovely garden is only about 40 minutes from where we live, and I try to visit with my husband at least once a year. It’s quite difficult to find a day when we are both free, but we decided to go today while the sun shone.
My husband is better with the camera than me (that’s not saying a lot, obviously), but we are both quite good at including the ‘other’ in a shot surreptitiously! So you might be able to spot me at some point . . .
I love this pond where we saw baby ducks
Strelitzia ‘Bird of Paradise’ in the tropical house
Jade Vine
Plumbago?
Great sign – being used as a bug hotel
Hope you have all had a good day too :)

A beautiful place Sheila. Is that you in pic 1? How nice and relaxing to walk around a place like this. I must plan a trip back to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Love that glorious jade vine! The flowers are luminescent and glow in the evening and pollinated by bats. Fascinating ehh?

These photos really show how tranquil and serene this place is.
The pond looks very pretty as does everything on here! A lovely day out for you I am sure.

Iโd love to go there Sheila. Cambridge is a beautiful place for a visit. The Jade vine is incredible isnโt it? And the bug sign is inspired...I love that. I might have a go at making one myself for our house. :) thanks for sharing!

Thanks Eileen, and Paul (Yes Paul, well spotted!).
Thank you Chris, and I had to smile at your comment . . . it certainly looks tranquil but because itโs the Easter holidays there were many children running around and yelling! Nice to see them having fun though :)
Thanks Karen - yes, I love Cambridge, and this garden is always worth a visit at any time of year :)

We are not too far away from the Botanic Gardens either and have been a couple of times. The lake is lovely and there are lots of delightful paths to take to cover all the large area. The trees are superb, with signs (when we went last) saying you weren't allowed to climb them - some look so inviting!
Great sign, a brilliant idea.

You clearly had a lovely day out Sheila ... love the Bird of Paradise bloom as it always reminds me of holidays in the Algarve! The pond looks lovely too.

Looks like a great day out. The plants in the tropical house remind me oh various holidays, super. Thanks for showing us.

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments!
Julia - the cloud reflections were what I loved too: you could paint that for sure.
Sandra - yes, the sun was bright and it was also very cold.
Honey, yes, the trees are beautiful. There was one fir that was ENORMOUS, with masses of branches that curved out and touched the ground six yards from the trunk.
Thatโs interesting Shirley and Siris that the pics remind you both of holidays :)

Thanks Thrupenny - the pond was the highlight for me too.
Bathgate (Paul) - sorry I didn't respond to your interesting comment about the Jade vine . . . I was very tired after the trip! But yes, it is fascinating that it is pollinated by bats. We thought bats were blind, but apparently they respond to brightness, hence being attracted to luminescence. Impressive :)

Tip: if there is a queue for the cafe, look for the nearby kiosk. We had delicious brownies with our coffee and a table all to ourselves in the sunshine ๐

Its ages since we last visited the gardens I use to work just outside Cambridge so use to go often , Were meeting our granddaughter in Cambridge at the end of the month but I'm not sure if we'll have time for a quick look in at the gardens it depends on her train times back to London ..

That is one place on my bucket list to visit. But I don't know when I will ever get there.
you have had a lovely day out. I too take pictures of OH and daughters but they always manage to move/turn just as I press the shutter.
