A stroll in the garden on 2nd May

Feeling happy with the progress of the garden so far, I took the camera for a stroll.

This is the first time we have seen a flower on our new Wisteria, which we’ve had for less than a year.

Lilac

Viburnum ‘Onondaga’

Quince has a white flower and a pink one!

Primula Sieboldii (I think)

Petunias, Salveola, Omphalodes, Verbena etc. waiting to be planted out mid-May

Pelargoniums and Geraniums in the greenhouse

Oxalis

Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’

Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’ from Shirley tulip – thanks!

Acer Sango kaku

Geranium ‘Bill Wallis’

Acer Osakazuki

No wonder this is my favourite time of year :)

Lovely photos - the geranium is very full of flowers so early!

Thanks Sunny . . . yes, this is a perennial one and seems happy where it is 🙂

Lovely garden. I think springtime makes us feel much better.
Today I found that my sweet peas have begun to flower already.

It's looking great, you've lots of colour, your lilac and geranium way ahead of mine, did you say you grew your Omphalodes from seed?

My favourite month Sheila...will be glad when this cold front passes. Its very cold here today. I’ve just put some pots back inside the greenhouse.

Thanks very much Marjorie and Julia.

Thank you Dawn - yes, I grew the Omphalodes from seed, quite easily. I think these are 'linifolia' - starry white 6" flowers rather than the usual blue 4" ones

Karen, it was chilly here too: I've put the trays of plants back in the greenhouse for another week or two, but there's so much to look forward to!

Thanks Sheila, can I ask where you bought the seed please.

2 May, 2019

Dawn, I often buy seed from Seedaholic because I love the comprehensive info they send, but I have a feeling that the Omphalodes came free with the magazine Garden Answers. I will look tomorrow to see if I have any left.

2 May, 2019

That's kind of you Sheila, you wouldn't think they'd be easy, I've never used Seedaholic.

Haven't things come on well? Your Acers look perfect. There's so much happening right now isn't there?

3 May, 2019

Thanks Julia, yes, suddenly all the plants are filling out, helped by the warmth and the wet. I love seeing something new flowering each day. 🙂

3 May, 2019

Dawn - I have found the seeds. Omphalodes linifolia (aka Argentine forget-me-not). So if you'd like to PM me with your address I will send you at least a dozen!

Just gorgeous Sheila. That Lilac must give a nice fragrance. Hard to believe what you started out with - how you transformed it.

3 May, 2019

Googling them :-))))

Thank you so much Paul for your generous comments - we have been very lucky! Yes, it’s lovely to bring a branch or two of the Lilac indoors to enjoy its wafting scent 🙂

some gorgeous plants there. everything looking healthy and happy.

Many thanks Eileen 🙂

Lovely, Shelia :)

Thanks Hywel 🙂

Julia, I found the Viburnum Onondaga in an ngs garden in Cornwall . . . our local nursery owner had never heard of it, so I feel lucky to have a “rarity”. This was saved from the old garden after OH had mistakenly cut it down trying to prune something next to it - Phew!

Sheila, I'm about a week behind with looking at blogs, life just gets in the way of GoY sometimes! All of your plants are looking fabulous, and how wonderful to have a Wisteria.

10 May, 2019

Thanks Shirley. The Wisteria is in a pot at the front of the house west- facing: so hoping to grow it as a standard. I love the bi-coloured flowers. Glad you caught up with me, and I know just what you mean by life getting in the way!

10 May, 2019

It really is an attractive Wisteria. Seems to be a lot of the plain lilac ones in bloom around here.

13 May, 2019

They're all lovely, aren't they Shirley?!

13 May, 2019

Certainly are ... :o)

14 May, 2019

All your plants are lovely Sheilabub, could you tell me the name of this oxalis please.

26 May, 2019

Good question Callie - which I’m sorry I can’t answer. I’ve had it for years so no label. The leaves are purple if that helps, and it’s tender.

26 May, 2019

Thank you Sheilabub, I will google it and see if I can find it.

27 May, 2019

Callie - I've just been looking through masses of old labels looking for the name of an Acer - I didn't find that, but I did find the label for the Oxalis! It's Oxalis Depressa 'Lucky Pink'. Maybe I'll PM you in case you don't see this . . .

15 Jun, 2019

Thank you Sheila,I have received your PM and replied, hope you find the name of your Acer, thanks again Callie.

16 Jun, 2019

You’re welcome Callie.
