15 Dec, 2011

Great Sheilar! nice pic of you too! See you like Dali?

15 Dec, 2011

Thanks Joanella and Amy - I hope they taste OK. I made my own for years and just somehow got out of the habit. Now I've re-invented them so I'll probably do my own every year.
Pixi - yeah I do like Dali. This one's called Reflections of Elephants. It's swans on a lake and their reflections in the water are elephants, really weird.

yES i KNOW i LIKE THIS..I like a lot of Dali paintings..so much to see of you really examine the backgrounds too"

15 Dec, 2011

excellent Sheilar - look so professional - love the holly decorations on top too :)))))))))

15 Dec, 2011

I've got a hard backed book on Dali's work and his stuff is really interesting - makes you think! I've also got another two prints in frames but I can't remember which ones they are!

15 Dec, 2011

They don't look so professional close up Paul, I've got bits of cake mixed in with the icing!!! lol

15 Dec, 2011

15 Dec, 2011

They look yummy Sheila, mine isn't iced yet still pouring in the brandy ;-)

15 Dec, 2011

Lovely,Sheilar..and nice to see you too :o).Every year,I say I am going to buy, instead of making them..and every year I change my mind..I love home made, just reminds me of my mum,and the lovely smell coming from the kitchen..:o)

15 Dec, 2011

I enjoyed making them Bloomer, they're quite easy. The time-taking part I think is weighing everything out and of course, the smell of them cooking is heaven.
Simbad, I put the brandy in before cooking - one for the cake, two for me, one for the cake, two for me, one for .... you get the drift? :-))

15 Dec, 2011

Sounds like not just drift but wobble and collapse giggling, too, Sheilar. They look scrummy!
I make my cakes as early as I can, and soak all the dried fruit and spices in various alcohols and fruit juice for a week before combining with the base mixture and cooking. That way, the alcohol doesn't evaporate during the cooking, and the cakes are very dense and moist.

15 Dec, 2011

Gattina, I too soak the dried fruit in brandy, but normally just overnight. When I've made them in the past, they were really lovely, nice and moist. I just hope I haven't lost the touch!

15 Dec, 2011

Well, if the taste as good as they look, you definitely haven't!

15 Dec, 2011

Smashing cakes Sheila! :) I haven't made one this year I'm afraid...pity because I love the smell when you make it, but as I'm the only person who eats it, it would be a waste. Yours look fab...perhaps I'll buy myself a very small one! Love it with a piece of really good cheese!

16 Dec, 2011

Oh Shush Karen! I love cheese and Christmas cake too, but my hubby says the thought of it makes him heave!!
Sheilar, you've made a lovely job of those, the ribbons are a nice festive touch, and it's lovely to put a face to a name! I'll know who I'm talking to now! Lol!

16 Dec, 2011

They look very nice Sheila ... I think they'll taste very nice too :o)

16 Dec, 2011

Mmmmmm! Yummy! Christmas Cake! Love it! Mine's been 'fed' with brandy and is well wrapped up and ready for its journey south for New Year. No-one in my family likes marzipan, so my cakes go un-iced but they don't hang around for long! Happy Christmas Sheilar. :o)

16 Dec, 2011

Your cakes look lovely Sheilar, wish I could have a slice right now! Sure they wont be around for long. Happy Christmas to you hun...!

16 Dec, 2011

Oh, they look lovely, Sheilar...I love Christmas cake...
I wish I could have some too! Enjoy and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :)

16 Dec, 2011

Excellent cakes Sheilar.

16 Dec, 2011

Karen, my whole family love rich fruit cake, so it won't have a long life!
Libet, I couldn't find those Christmasy decorative frill things you put round the cake so I bought a roll of fancy ribbon from BHS!
Nariz, everyone in the family loves marzipan, so there's marzipan underneath the icing.
Thanks Hywel, Poppylover, Karenfrance and Alexb for you kind comments and seasons greetings to you all.

17 Dec, 2011

Lovely cakes Sheilar and nice to see you too. I didn't have any brandy this year when I made my cake , so its got whiskey in it.I hope it tastes just as good, bit worried now.

17 Dec, 2011

Ooooh yummy cakes Sheila!

Hope you have a very delicious Christmas.

17 Dec, 2011

Heresy now - all the Scottish GoYs will be gunning for me - I can't tell the difference between whisky and brandy in a blind tasting, Rose! Isn't that awful? I don't care for either. Best place for them in my opinion, cakes.

17 Dec, 2011

They look lovely Sheilar.

Merry Christmas.

18 Dec, 2011

Rose - I normally put brandy in my but if I haven't any brandy I put in whatever spirit I've got!
Thanks Sticki, Gattina and Frybo for your lovely comments.

i especially like the ribbon. Much better that dodads..Looks really like a Christmas Cake. Maybe a bit of red berries with the holly? How do you water all the houseplants. Thanks for looking at my Blog. It's the first one I have ever put in, next time a bit better.
