In October last year, I won second prize in a raffle for Help for Heroes at work. The prize was an overnight stay for two at Bowburn Hall Hotel in Durham with a complimentary breakfast. As we were both on holiday from work this week, I booked us in for the overnight stay on Tuesday evening.

This is the gardens at the back. The pic of the front of the hotel refused to load (said the pic was too big!!)

This is me asleep in the big four poster bed!!

We went on to Durham City after we booked out of the hotel on Wednesday (today).

This is me next to statues of the Monks carrying Saint Cuthbert’s coffin. The Monks carried it from Holy Island to York, then back to Durham Cathedral (where his body currently rests) to escape the vikings.

This is the front of the Hotel, it looks small but it’s really big at the back. Apparently it was originally the home of the pit owners back when coal mining was thriving.
This pic should have been on first on this blog but as it was ‘too big’ I’ve cropped it but I could only manage to get it on the end!!
There were lots more photos, but they were rubbish!!.

I remember those views of Durham cathedral. I stayed near it many years ago.
Re 'big' photos, it is possible to resize them with Pic Resize. You can get it on the Google page. I'll send you a PM on how to use it if you like. It's easy .... well I can do it, so that's a clue lol

Lovely Sheila, lucky you! Durham is such a beautiful cathedral....though I haven't been there for about 32 years! That's a great story about St Cuthbert and the Monks.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. As I said, there were loads more photos but they were rubbish. The bed was really comfortable, I had to run and jump on it, it was so high! lol (should have had some stepladders). Hywel, thanks for your offer to help but I managed to reduce the size of the photo which was too big.
