New Summerhouse

Some members may recall our previous summerhouse was damaged in a storm back at the end of September last year, the ‘A’ Team (aka family!) assisted with the demolition and we were undecided whether to replace it or not.

We realised over the Winter months that we did use it regularly from Spring through to Autumn, perfect place to sit with a cuppa and a crossword or a good book, with a view over the garden.

On Tuesday this week we had a new one installed by a team of three who arrived at 9am and were all done by five past ten! The base, panels and roof were all built to the required size at the company workshop and then assembled on site.

Here are some photos … the concrete base housed the original summerhouse.

Then the sides went on …

Nearly there …

The company advised applying two coats of wood preservative … I did the window frames and OH did all the rest!

It has been tested out by OH who just took his after lunch cuppa and newspaper to sit and enjoy the warmth.

Hopefully 2024 will bring some lovely sunny days to sit and enjoy it.

Brilliant Shirley - and what good service. Your OH is not daft - painting the window frames is definitely the trickier job!

Wow! I bet you are really pleased! It looks lovely, and I too feel a bit envious! What a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors but protected from wind, showers and wasps! X

Sheila, Michael has neither the patience nor the steady hand for the finer paintwork! We actually found out today that we could have had the wood treated at the workshop, for quite a cost though.

Thanks Callie, I'm sure we shall make good use of it.

Karen, has this given you ideas for your new garden? Not quite a pod, but a lovely place to relax in.

It did make me think Shirley. I haven’t included a summer house in my new garden!

I love it Shirley! It will be so nice sitting and looking at your garden.
I have two arbour seats which came with us from Willow Cottage and keep wondering whether to replace one with a summer house , but as I have the conservatory here, it seems silly to spend more when I don't really need one!
But..sigh.. it would be nice though!

Oh my, what a wonderful place to spend time! I can understand your delight.
My son has been trying to persuade me to invest in a shed although I think what he has in mind is more something along the lines of your summerhouse. We have the space where the caravan used to stand but it neighbours the end of the cul de sac and public footpath, I think we'd spend more time gossiping with passers by than reading, although it would be lovely to sit there in the sunshine and work my bobbin lace. My intention is to have the 'passage' at the back of the house removed and a wider garden room with a glass roof put in its place, that would serve the same purpose although it is on the north-eastern side of the building so only benefits from early morning sun. Oh decisions, decisions, lol.

Muddy, you can have a Bovril, no sugar!

Klahanie, yes it is almost the same dimensions and shape as the previous one.

Thanks Julia, I have already said to Michael that I want to keep 'knick-knacks' out of there, just the necessities as he has a habit of adding things when I'm not looking!

Thanks Josie, as we said to family, we don't drink or smoke, don't take holidays abroad, so it's a worthwhile expense for us.

Rose, I think what you have with the conservatory and the arbour seats sounds more than adequate.

Wow, it looks perfect Shirley. You've done a good job treating it too. I bet you keep popping in to try it out. It'll be so warm too. A small table, pile of books, reclining garden chair, ahh pure heaven zzzzz..:)

Lovely new summerhouse, Shirley! Loved seeing the new one emerge, step by step. Good work all round by the chaps and yourselves.
It'll be perfect to carry on with your book reading and enjoying a cuppa or 2 as you did before. Roll on the fine weather too..

What a lovely solid looking summerhouse very quickly erected and it looks great with your coats of preservative. It looks like the same shape as ours Shirley. You will get many, many hours of pleasure from it I know.
