It's over!

Hi Shirley, I’ve just seen the same message! Very sad to hear this, despite me recently not being as active on the site the past six months.
I like you have made a whole lot of lovely friends on here, since I joined back in February 2019. I do hope there is another gardening site/forum we can all meet up on. Any thoughts, please let me know. 🙏
Very saddened to hear the site is having to close…

Very sad news but not surprised...I hope more will join GFs...couldn't not have a Gardening forum in my day to day activities. Thank you everyone who has given advice and help over the last 14 years...I've so much enjoyed seeing all your gardens and more especially making like minded friends 🧡

Kate, I am so sad to learn of its demise as I really do enjoy seeing the flora and fauna from, not only the UK, but around the world too.

I have joined another gardening forum, Garden Friends, where there are some GoY folk you will know. I haven't contributed for a couple of weeks for various reasons, but now that GoY is going, GF seems the best place to be.

The layout of it is very different to GoY, but I'm sure you will pick it up more easily than I am doing, ha ha!

Omg just logged on as have been on holiday for 2 weeks aww nooo really disappointed as we all will be, will we still be able to see our pictures etc that we have added x

Julia, I haven't been looking in on a daily basis, but when I do it's wonderful to see the blogs, photos, questions and answers etc. about gardening. I have enjoyed using it for so many years.
I am now wondering just how many members will try logging on after August 1st only to find it no longer exists ... :o((

Jane, I sent you a PM last week about the Daylilies for you from my garden. Quick, PM me your address and I will parcel them up for you!

I would imagine everything to do with the site will vanish ... :o((

I'm the same Kate really did boost my enthusiasm to get stuck in being a part of this site and was great for keeping a record, same to everyone all the best wishes x

I was also shocked - but not terribly surprised - that our beloved GoY is closing down - for good! ;(

I just wish we had had a longer period to copy our blogs for example. Though I did start copying some of mine years ago. I opened an account on WordPress & copied many of my blogs on there but little by little I forgot about doing it & it's probably at least 2 years since I last did it - though I haven't written very many for the last 3 or 4 years anyway!

The error I made as I was learning how to use it was to be lazy & just copy everything in my blogs, pictures included. Now most of the pictures are linked to GoY which will mean that when GoY shuts down all the links to the pictures will stop working as well & my blogs will only consist of text with only picture holders to show where they once were! :(

If we had been given a moth's warning I might have been able to find the pictures on GoY & download them to my computer before uploading them to my WordPress account. Now there simply won't be enough time. :(

I'm pleased I managed to access it after a few weeks. I am sad but not surprised really. I too will look at joining Gardening Friends, I don't want to lose seeing everyone's gardens after 17 years!

I've just found the blog on WordPress &, as I feared, all the pictures in the blogs I wrote on GoY have disappeared! ;( Much earlier than I expected as well! ;(

Nothing I can do about it now except search through my computer to see if I can find the pictures I originally posted in my blogs.

I have seen the very first blog I ever did on GoY & with the original photos of the balcony I first uploaded to GoY! I don't know why that blog still has the original photos I uploaded to GoY many, many moons ago. I looked at some of the last few I uploaded but, except for one where I uploaded the photos from my computer to WordPress, all the pictures have gone! ;(

I have 14 pages of blogs on WordPress & the great majority were those I wrote on GoY. It would be an almost impossible task to locate, (even if it were possible), all the photos I used when writing the blogs as I've changed computers 2 or 3 times & lots would have got "stuck"/trapped on them. ;(

I don't think I have any blogs copied from GoY to WordPress for the last 3 or 4 (or more) years. So they will slip silently into "cyberspace" along with all the rest. Only the text of the blogs will live on. Serves me right for going the easy way & just copying the photo links from GoY into WordPress! I have nobody else to blame but my own laziness! To think I created that account in case GoY were to close down as well!!! Now that day is about to come along & all my work has been for nothing! ;(

Same here,Shirley, we have been friends for many years,not just on Goy, haven't we? I'm sure we will catch up again,and hope both you and Michael,and your family are well .
We are fine,and celebrated our 51st Wedding Anniversary yesterday.. still speaking,after all those year ! ha ha xx
