Potty Gardening at 0 degrees!

Oh yes, I know I’m potty – I’ve told you that already!

Now – where was I? Ah yes. Clearing the ox-eye daisies, brambles and honeysuckle! Then I ran out of light.

Well, no snow here, just a light frost which didn’t lift all day – so I got well-wrapped up and got on with the site clearance!

Boy! It was c-c-c-old out there – but I did it!

So with the area cleared, I ‘walked’ the pot into position – I love it! I have to talk nicely to my husband to get him to calculate the amount of ericacious compost needed to fill it, and then I shall go off on a ‘mission’ to find some white ericas to plant!

The temperatures stayed at zero all day today – so I knew I’d have to protect my vulnerable plants – out with the fleece and clothes pegs!

I’d made the decision to fleece my beautiful new Pittosporum ‘Silver Magic’ – so Henry watched with interest as it vanished under a white cover. Last year he barked at the strange ‘ghost-like’ mounds. Whether he remembered them, I really don’t know – but he kept quiet this time!

The other plants that I fleeced were my Astelia banksii,

Lophomyrtus ralphii,

And the two Loropetalum chinense.

So they’re all tucked up – and I hope they’ll survive the minus temperatures that are forecast!

That looks a lovely spot for a pot, my Pittosporum is weighted down with snow but as it has been before several times I think it will be ok.

another good day out in the fresh air. lucky you. That pot looks good enough without any plants in it :o)

we have had about 4 inches of snow this afternoon and it was minus 3 on the way home. frrreeezing. lots of black ice too :o(

Remembered too late about my saxifrage black ruby. covered in snow so moved in to the greenhouse. do you think they will survive?

You poor things! You know I hate snow - but plants seem to be OK under that white blanket, don't they - it's prolonged frost (or cold and wet) that kills them!

No Sandra - you might be looking at next door's gate, possibly? Nobody else was 'potty' enough to be outside today! LOL.

I love your pot Spritz,

You have inspired me to ask hubby for one or at least a voucher from a local garden centre so that I can find a new pot too. I want something large and frost proof.

As in Somerset, its cold here in Cardiff, but we're not expecting snow.

I too had a good couple of hours in the garden recently - I cannot stand looking at weeds all through the winter.

I can recommend clematis Wisley as a late summer flowering one - deep purple.

That was my brief, too, R'smum - 'large and frostproof' - to which I added...'unusual'. :-)))

I do like getting in the garden if and when I can, all year round. I shall take a look and see if there's any space for clematis.....
