My Cats Yogi and Basil

Yogi was a seal bicolor ragdoll and a very lovely boy. We had to say good bye to him in 2009 at the age of 15, he had developed kidney failure.
Basil my Russian blue is still with us, he is aged 16 and is on medication for a thyroid problem, but apart from that he is still enjoying the garden and life.

The Johnson's blue geranium took over last year, so I have taken some out. This year I will be planting more pinks and purple. I keep the colour palette cool as the garden is so small, it helps to create the allusion of a much bigger garden. We are very lucky we back on to the rolling Devon countryside.

oh thats interesting ~ didnt realise that about colours in the garden ~ silly really cos you think about them in a house! we have a smallish garden too but its quite shady and i think yellow and white flowers seem to look best to brighten it up ~ hadnt thought about the space. i love the blue but it wouldnt show up here.

If you plant lighter plants to the back of the garden and gradually strengthen to colour towards the front, it helps with the illusion too!

very clever ~ thanks.

Yogi was gorgeous, it is sad when we lose a pet but one doesn`t want them to suffer, so often we have make a decision about their quality of life for their sake.
Basil has that look that says " I`m comfortable thankyou, so please don`t disturb" LOL..
Your garden looks very pretty and with that view in the background you have all the greenery to admire anyway........

Lovely colouring on Yogi and those blue eyes!
Basil looks so laid back and looking good for 16. Thanks for showing.

What beauties!! And your garden with those views...!

Yes, I agree with everyone, those are two beautiful cats and the garden is stunning. I can see now that all that geranium is making it look so blue and that is why I love it so much. You are quite right about the colours of course. I read that when using red flowers, always plant them immediately in front of you, as the eye is always drawn to red first so if you put it at the back of the garden it shortens the garden, whereas if you put it right outside your door or window, you don't get that problem. I have a mainly pastel colour scheme too Teds, although I am introducing one 'hot' border just to give a bit of variety. I'm looking forward to developing that a bit more this year. I am impatiently waiting for delivery of a new geum..'Mai Tai' have you seen it..it's new and I think you would love it! Very pastel soft apricot flowers.

Thanks! Lulu for your comments. The dogs would have to be carefully, the cliff tops are very unstable on this side of the cost. We often get land slips.

Hope to have a hot garden out the front this year! no pastel colours. Its nice to go from one colour scheme to another it rings the changes. I have just ordered some dwarf blueberry plants (top hat) to try in my veg patch.

Teds, your garden looks so pretty and it will be good to see your changes in the next growing season. I should say welcome to GoY as well...I've not been on the site very regularly as I've been having computer troubles, so I have only just discovered your blog today :)
I have no cats now and so really enjoy the photos and tales the GoY'ers share....your cats are beauties, sad to lose a much-loved pet (been there too).
And lucky you, living in beautiful Devon.

What pretty pussies Teds, our Fluffy is nearly 20 and still in pretty good health. She still even manages to climb the stairs. We also had her sister who we lost a couple of years ago, they were from the same litter. I agree with you, it's awful when you lose them isn't it, but we certainly don't want them to suffer. Love your pretty garden, it looks so peaceful, and what a great view you have there.

I love your blue garden, since blue is my favorite color. And those kitties, bless their little hearts! I have a soft spot for the old cats. My oldest now is Sparkles who will turn 15 this year. She's in good health thankfully although she isn't as chubby as she used to be.

Welcome! I am new too! love Sparkles, is that her in the Photo Lauram?

no, that's Tiger. Tiger died last September. He had a hole in his esophagus (we don't know how he got it) and it became infected with an antibiotic-resistant bacteria. He was hospitalized but died anyway.

Awww Teds, Yogi was handsome. I lost my lovely cat Jess in Jan 2010 due to kidney failure. Basil looks happy.

It's so sad when you lose a pet, sorry to here about Jess. Unfortunately Basil has had to stay over at the vets to night, we think he has a tooth problem. He hasn't been eating and has lost weight. Just hopping its nothing to serious we will no tomorrow. Fingers crossed:(

Oh no Teds, I hope he's Ok. They are a worry. I've been at the vets tday with our one year old cats, for their injections. I still miss my Jess, I had her from a kitten for almost 17 years. Let usknow how Basil is tomorrow. X

Basil has come round from his Op, and will be home tomorrow. He has had four back teeth taken out, poor old thing. What are cats called? have you any photos of them?

Thank you Beverley! I'm adding some extra pinks and purple this year with a splash of lemon. We are very lucky to back on to the Devon countryside, the garden is only very small but the view makes up for it I think.
