THE GREENHOUSE

Last Thursday we gave our greenhouse a treat
We brushed and we scrubbed it was quite a feat
We put everything back, rack after rack
and I must admit it did look darned neat!

Then we sat and watched Monty last Friday
And OH said “well thats ruined my day!”
Bubblewrap your greenhouse, said the dirty louse!
Just after we got it all tidy!

So today we emptied the whole bally lot
And cut bubblewrap til we were feeling quite hot
Tape stuck to everything, hair, cardi, wedding ring
Its finished but “stately” greenhouse it is not!

And a bit of Poetry in the Blog too....Now you're all set to go...

I mentioned to Meadowland, that while I was poorly I watched Around the World in Eighty Gardens by Monty...I had seen it already, it was bought for me as a pressie a couple of Christmases ago...Have you seen it, or maybe you've got it too....Really interesting DVD's....

safe then!!

I bubble wrap mine every October Tetrarach but find the need to ventilate is greater, and next spring take it down hang it out on the washing line and when completely dry roll it up for next year. I find it lasts and last this way.

Very good Tetra, how do you think them up??? lol...
I cheat in mine, bubblewrap over the doorway but not the rest, I use my mini greenhouse covers when I need to, end up with two mini houses inside the bigger one...

Brilliant Tet, your greenhouse is all gift wrapped for the season, you wont regret it!

Way to go girls...this is the first time we've done it..seemingly unlike you organised lot! lol!
Im going to have to be very careful to make sure the sparrows dont take up lodgings during winter days..had one in there once..devil of a job to get the bird out cos it got down behind the racks.
Sticki I think I prefer my bubbly tucked up by the fire!
Crissue, I bought the Monty set last year. Dont like all the gardens he saw, but the one in South America done by a british bloke was totally amazing! Even more so when the chap he employed as gardener..his family still look after it.

Could well be worth all the effort if the forecast are right!

Is it going to be bad again?

29 Oct, 2011

Tetra....It's supprising the lengths we all go to -to have our little bit of garden...and the floating gardens by ordinary people, were brill...all fruit and veg grown too...:))

That's a lot of bubbles there!! Quite an exercise!

what a grand job u have done there tetrarch....
Linclass i use the double glazing method..ive moved my cold frames into my polytunel...and i'll cover them with blankets when the cold realy sets in. but ventilation is soooo important and i will open it all up on all but the coldest of days...

Well done... you've been working hard ! :o)

29 Oct, 2011

Well done i bubblewrapped my greenhouse a couple of weeks ago, when its very cold i put fleece over my wintering plants and seedlings aswell.

29 Oct, 2011

well done you two for all that hard work,

29 Oct, 2011

I dont have any fleece Clarice, guess will have to drape with more bubblewrap! There's not room to swing a cat in the g/house Sandra/Lincslass, most of my plants have to stay outside. Thats okay cos they are, in the main, irises and daylilies, but my Pennisetum grass, my seedlings and plugs need cosseting. besides my 2 cannas and choc.cosmos and my Isoplexis Canariensis.

Thanks TT, Lulu and Yorkie dear.
Crissue, those floating gardens were mind boggling!

29 Oct, 2011

All nice and snug now, ready for winter .... :o)

29 Oct, 2011

Thanks Hywel, it is indeed and OH has promised to get me a little carpet to stand on as my feet get cold on the stone floor....bliss!

29 Oct, 2011

Now there's a good idea :o)

29 Oct, 2011

And an excellent job you have made of it, we are bound to have a warm winter now lol

29 Oct, 2011

What mixed signs we are getting Dotty, the temps predicted this week are between 15 and 17, and night times not below double figs. No wonder our plants havent a clue! I was checking my plants at 3.30am this morning (make that 2.30!! forgot about clocks) in pyjamas with short sleeves! Yet your berries forecast something very different!

30 Oct, 2011

Same here Tet..am keeping my beady eye on my grasses too, tho fine at the mo...just have not got the room inside, else we'll have to move out...lol...and I can't believe how mild it is here this morning, no Sun as yet, but so nice and so calm...All heating off, OH overheating and in shorts...:))

30 Oct, 2011

Oh dear, this is a job I still have to do. My greenhouse has been sadly neglected and really needs a good scrub inside and out. Trouble is I seem to have run out of energy :( Hopefully your example will inspire me :)

Well I did have OH to do the heavy lifting Gee, otherwise it might have taken me weeks...especially with that sticking tape...it really did stick everywhere it touched (which was mainly me lol)

Lovely job Tetrarch. Now, last year I bubble-wrapped mine too. I'm not going to this year...tell you why...it ran with water all winter...it was horrid. I don't know if it is because it is so small and rounded, but it just all got so wet and a lot of the plants (the ones that didn't die of cold in spite of the wrapping) rotted away. I hope yours doesn't have the same problem, it looks bigger than mine. Good luck with it!

Its a 6 x 4 glasshouse Karen. I decided not to cover the door..bit of a nuisance, keeps catching. Im also not going to shut the door until they say hard frost is coming and I am leaving it open all day..hope it works, I dont have an alternative for my borderline plants.

5 Nov, 2011

Ventilation is the key Karen:-)
your plan sounds good to me Tetrarch ....
i have open frames in a tunnel but leave them uncovered and the doors open unless it's windy or frosty. when it gets rely bad i cover the frames with old sleeping bags but always open it all up in the morning.

5 Nov, 2011

Ah well, I must admit, I was not good at ventilating last winter! Surprise surprise! :))

5 Nov, 2011

Dont fret you arent alone, sure as eggs, I will forget at some stage!!

5 Nov, 2011

I had the door full open all day today...I thought about you girls and thought I'd better get my act together! ;)))

6 Nov, 2011
