Allotment and other news.

Hi everybody, it’s been quite a while since I have contributed as I have been extremely busy since my last blog/ photo upload. I have just over two weeks left in my current employment (26yrs in the RAF) before I start my own garden design and maint business full time.
Today I recieved good news, I have got an allotment!!! not bad only waited two years. So I went to have a look and realised that there are 3 large crowns of rhubarb, an over grown strawberry bed with lots of stray runners going elsewhere and lots of grass and weeds.
I imediately made a start on clearing the weeds from the rhubarb. Over the next few weeks hopefully it will look like an allotment with pasnips sowed and everything else ready and waiting.
My college course a foundation degree in garden design is going great, lots of home work, essay’s, presentations, photo boards and drawings are keeping me really busy.
Tomorrow I send my application and drawings off for a student garden design competition in Kent. If it gets selected or not I shall post my drawings on here after the 14th March and let you all know if it was successful or not.
These pics below are of a raised veg garden that I have been busy doing for a friend using old roof tiles.
6 in total and one out of stone for strawberries for their daughter.
Final pic is of my now 8 month old border collie Bramble, who is an avid fan of digging and is no help what so ever in my garden. The pic by the way was taken in the woods on a rainy day not my garden.
Chat soon.

Welcome back Trees, not long now and you can dress how you like, lol. I do like those beds and it certainly sounds as though you are going to be busy for quite a while yet.
Great little gardening companion you have there, are you allowed to take him to your allotment with you ?
Good luck in the competition and your plans for your retirement......

Found myself here after googling 'Could i use reclaimed regents tiles for an allotment border' What do you think - Could i just dug a trench poke tiles in then refill trench or would it need wood to make it stronger? Thanks

That was all that I had done. I have used them since in another garden, exactly the same way. Not sure what Regent tiles are but if they are a roof tile then it should work just the same.

What a clever idea using recycled roof tiles to make raised beds.
Pleased your course is going so well and your future looks so challenging....much success as you approach your retirement and your new venture in garden design. And you have made a good start on your allotment...lots of hard digging there to undertake.
