A new start....

Hello everyone, I’ve not been on here for a longtime, for various reason but mainly because we’ve been in the middle of selling what we thought was to be our retirement bungalow and moving from West Yorkshire to Lancashire.

This all came about because of Covid and the subsequent lock-down. The result was that we only sa our grandchildren 4 times in 12 months. I for one couldn’t stand it and so the decision to move was taken.

In November last year, we found a buyer for our bungalow very quickly and shortly afterwards we found a house at the right price and size and just 10 mins drive away from my son and the family. We moved house on April the 1st.

Since then we have discovered that the 15 mins we were allowed inside the property due to Covid restrictions wasn’t anywhere near enough. We have had to have plumbers, electricians, joiners…you name it. We are now at last, begining to see the end of the ‘to do’ list.

Meanwhile, while the weather has been so good, we decided to tackle the garden. We did get a quote for the heavy work, but we thought that £9,000 was a tad high. Thankfully our son helped us as I’m sure without his help ,we couldn’t have done it as both my husband and myself suffer with arthritis. The attached photos show you the progress,so far.

I hope you approve of what we’ve done so far…

Sandra;
I've been helped so much by your constant flow of 'funnies' and emails, but they're not the same as meeting up face to face. Hopefully that meeting isn't too far away.xx

Wildrose;
I was brought up for much of my childhood on the boarder of the two counties, so the move wasn't too hard. We are both looking forward to a time of relaxation and watching the garden develop. Thank you for your good wishes.

It's nice to hear from you Julia and I'm glad that you are doing well. Congratulations on the move, I'm glad you found your house and the garden is looking grand. Moving is never easy under the best of circumstances. Thankfully the worst is behind you and you can start to enjoy your new home. Today I went out without a face mask and nobody said anything about it. When you get a free moment, please see my latest blog. I would love to have a garden wall like yours but it's against the building code. My neighbors love to gawk. Enjoy your new home and don't be a stranger around here.

Gerardine; Thank you so much.

Bathgate; Paul, I'll do my best to 'visit' more often in the future.
We've never had a brick wall before in our garden and I thought the garden clock helped to make a feature of it. I intend to keep posting blogs of how the garden develops.

I hope you're right about the worst being behind us. It's been a tough journey and certainly not one we would have undertaken under normal circumstances.

Lucky you being able to go out without your face mask. I hate wearing the darn thing and can't wait until we can ditch ours.

Take care and thank you for your kind comments.

Julia, firstly please accept my apologies for not replying to your PM in May!!! Computer issues - now sorted - hooray.

Well done on doing the garden work - I do like your trellis and wonder what you have planted to go against them?

Looks like you have children neighbouring on one side - I can see a trampoline!

We wish you both lots of happiness in your new home (and garden of course). :o)

Shirley; Not too worry, I've been rather busy so probably wouldn't have had time to reply anyway.

Glad you like the garden so far. The trellis have a variety of climbers. I'll be posting blogs in the future to show how things develop.

You're quite right about the neighbours children, in fact it's a little girl called 'Cloe' She's 6 years old and a lovely little girl. So is her mum Sarah, who's a single mum and is doing a fantastic job.

Thank you for your good wishes...I've sent you a quick PM.

Glad you are finally able to enjoy your new house and garden, Waddy.

Best wishes for your new home. I know the horror of trying to get things done during the pandemic. My niece bought a house which needed things done and trying to pin workmen down, get things delivered (correctly, or returned when not correct) was an ongoing problem. People who promised to arrive and didn't, things to be delivered that weren't - nightmare. Hopefully all that is behind you now and you just have the joy of enjoying the garden planning and watching it grow.

Lovely to hear from you Waddy, you have made a very impressive start on your garden and its going to be great to watch how it progresses. A lot of hard work and determination has gone into your move but being close to your family will soon make all those negative times disappear. All the best for the future, don`t forget to take a little time out now and again just to sit and relax.

Drc726; Thank you Denise. :-)

Stroller; Thank you. Yes it's been hard work, but seeing the granddaughters each week, at least, has been worth every aching joint lol!

Your new garden looks a manageable size Waddy, and it's nice that you live near your family now, it's better for you all :)
