More birthday pressies

As promised, here are photos of a few more birthday plants I received from our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids…..
Miniature Rose…
Sempervivum in pretty stone pots…
They have also ordered me a subscription to GARDENER’S WORLD which I will really enjoy reading and more importantly, gleaning lots of ideas/tips.
I am one lucky lady! (see my previous blog for my other plant pressies).
We have taken advantage of the clear weather today as well, borrowed a pair of loppers from above-mentioned daughter and lopped the unwieldy apple tree (kill or cure as it’s never been pruned in 20 yrs.!!) and I also tackled some more ivy removal. It was a pleasant 3 hrs. as hubby and I both worked in the garden. I was especially pleased he helped as he’s not really a keen gardener :).

Thank you Linda. My birthday was actually 30th September but the family didn't come over to visit until last night....thus my extra birthday blog tonight.
We've cut a lot down but won't be able to burn it in our small garden...so it will have to go to the garden recycling tip now.

I had a wonderful day....visited Speke Hall (a National Trust property) and hubby and I went out afterwards for a lovely lunch....Bonus was..if it's your birthday you get the main course free and a birthday cake. We didn't know this beforehand so was a nice surprise :)
Thank you, Bloomer, for your belated wishes. No problem with the delay....it wasn't really general knowledge that I was having a birthday....kept that quiet didn't I? lol

they are lovely pot fulls Whistonlass...check they ahve drainage hole in before u put them out...

I agree with Sandra about the drainage holes, they do not need to be potted on, they should survive the winter, we usually put some grit around ours.Lucky you great pressies.

No evidence of any drainage holes...I think I'd break the pot if I tried to put any holes in them....should I risk doing that or re-pot them. It's a shame as the pots are so attractive but I'll follow whatever advice you can offer, Sandra.
Do you know what the proper name of this variety is? and it looks to me as if both pots are the same kind?

you cant put them outside the as they will fill with water....best keep them inside till the spring. just make sure they have good light and keep them on the dry side to avoid rotting..then you could repot them in the spring...

Thanks, DD and Sandra. I've got so many questions and you've been very kind to reply to them! Much appreciated.

I like your sempervivums. They are a favourite of mine. They look perfect in those pots. Lucky you :o)
I'm pleased you had some nice weather and were able to work in your garden. It must have been a pleasant day. I wonder if your husband enjoyed. Sometimes
non-gardeners are not such non-gardeners after all.

Yes, Hywel....I didn't hear him complain once. I think as long as he could sit on the steps every little while and have his cig then he was happy :) I sure did appreciate his help...it was a ladder job and I'm not so brill at heights! Little by little and we'll make a great team...taming that wild patch of back garden! :)
I think the sempervivums will find their way into a rockery of some sort when the garden is developed. They are a fascinating plant.

I know IM very late with birthday wishes, but I am just catching up with everything on Goy, but really love those pots of Sempervivum, lovely little plants that quickly multiply. Pleased you enjoyed your day working in the garden with your husband it quite theraputic trimming things back, as long as you dont overdo things. I have Gardners World mags and always look forward to them coming each month Enjoy!!
