Narrowboats more brightly coloured than ours!

Wonderful blog yes they are so brightly painted and do some wonderful displays I live right by the canal and such friendly people always get a wave and quick chat as they are passing by, originally they were for the water gypsy s who worked on the canal transporting mainly by me coal. Now its the rich man mainly they have them one or two original people still live on them.

Another blog with fascinating photos of the barges. They look so graceful, and it must have been a pleasure to sail past all that lovely scenery ...

What...another super blog? well done Chris. Lovely photos. The sky looks a bit dark and threatening on a couple of shots, hope you weren't caught in shower. Will you do another break like this? Perhaps you could have Lillie again!

Thank you everyone, canals and narrowboats do seem to have a calming, nostalgic effect on all of us - a bit like steam engines! I like those too!

It would be nice to repeat this holiday one day but I'd check that 'Lillie' had received a bit of a makeover first! She needed it inside!

I'm sure you had a wonderful holiday, Wildrose. My parents lived on a narrowboat for nine years after my father retired. They cruised the whole system, including the Thames and adored it all. It's a hard life, though... We had some lovely "visits" with them!

Another nice blog Wildrose , a couple we know sold their house to buy a narrowboat,they loved it and lived on it !

I would be a bit wary of dampness and condensation but then I have a lack of adventure!!!

The downside was her husband had a heart attack and died which meant her coming home to start all over again .

I really like narrow boats but would hate all the twoing and frowing with the lock gates. Must be lots of interesting wildlife to watch just sat and relaxing on the top deck. Beautiful mode of transport. :O)

Amy, that is a sad ending to their dream. I hope she is settled back on land now and is feeling contented to be here again.

She has settled down Chris and feels grateful that they did it while they could !
