Weather Report from Devon - it's stopped raining!

The skies are still grey and it is a very soggy, squelchy world out there but at least it is dry!
I have taken a few pictures to give myself hope for the spring time ahead.
A very happy and healthy New Year to everyone and let’s hope we all have some fine days in our gardens wherever they are.

The hellebore is just by the kitchen door and just makes me smile.
Also near the kitchen door are winter heathers that also brighten up the dark winter days.
There are other little glimpses of welcome colour thanks to the mahonia, winter jasmine and one last rosebud!
The pittosporum is in a north facing bed and adds a touch of lightness to a rather dull area at this time of year.
The moss and lichen on our old apple tree seem to have enjoyed all the rain!
I am back indoors now and there are signs of spring inside too! I so like to see spring flowers when all the ‘glitz’ of Christmas is coming to an end.
HAPPY NEW YEAR when it comes!

I actually wanted daffodils yeterday but none were to be found! I shall think twice now about tulips after what you have said!

Oh, don't let me put you off WR, it's only my own feelings about them! Winter.....jan and feb, are tricky months for me....a long wait for new growth. I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of a tulip!

Lovely photo`s Wildrose, it does one good to see some blooms amongst all the soggy bits, I spotted a glimpse of some sunshine earlier, I even took a photograph of it across my sittingroom wall, lol...
Happy New Year to You and yes we can hope for good times in our gardens, I`m already hankering to get started in the G`houses.....

Happy New Year to you too, Wildrose. Dry-ish here in Kent today too and a little bit of sunshine - if I'd blinked I would have missed it! I noticed some new growth on my hydranga yesterday - all signs of hope :)

Hurray...for the rain to stop. Your pictures are wonderful.
Beautiful cyclamen and I love your arrangement of the spring flowers in the vase.
Best wishes for 2013, Wildrose.

Thanks for such kind comments and good wishes, and don't worry Karen, if I deprive myself of a tulip I won't blame you!!! I feel exactly the same about Jan and Feb, they seem endless at times. Even the sught of a snowdrop isn't quite enough to make me appreciate this time of year!!

We've had a fine day as well, even managed to get some washing dry outside, it was lovely to see the towels blowing in the wind. Beautiful cyclamen WR and cut flower arrangement
Roll on the spring, the crocus bulbs in my pots are peeping thru the soil :-)

Unfortunately Wildrose the rain is still with us here in the Midlands but your lovely photos have cheered up a miserable day.
Best wishes to all goyers for a good 2013 gardening year.

Hi Rose, so glad you have a let up of the rain, think you have had it bad in your region, poor things. It has stopped raining here today and we actually went for a walk with our new baby, it was blowy out but mild. I love your cheery photos, lets hope we have better weather next year, not too wet, not too dry but just right! ;)

Sorry also to add - hoping 2013 will be a great one for you and everyone :)))

Lovely pics Chris. Glad to hear it's stopped down there - blowing gales and absolutely p***ing down up here. Last New Year brought gale force winds which brought down the last of my inherited fencing. So hopefully the first few days of 2013 will be a less stressful that 2012.
Have a good one and all the best xx

Lovely pictures!
yes, it stopped raining here today as well.....but for how long? ,I wonder.
Still very windy though, perhaps it'll dry the ground up a bit so we can all get out in our gardens in the coming weeks!!

How cheery to see colour in your garden,Chris..I love the Lichen on the Apple tree too..such a striking feature..Nice to see you back safely..very squelchy here too..non stop torrential rain and gale force wind since last night.. even too bad to go out to feed the birds, and the Blackbirds are waiting ..might have to just open the door slightly and throw something..:o) I'm so glad we hadn't planned to go out tonight! I hope it is better for you now...all the best for 2013,it's been a real pleasure to chat to you this past year..I'm sure we will continue to do so :o) xxx

Thanks Diane, I love moss - we used to make moss gardens in school on our nature table. Sadly they don't bother much with nature tables much any more! Shows I am getting old!
And now to you three! Meadowland, Bloomer and BA!
A very happy new year and may we continue to share our adventures (or lack of them!) for the forthcoming year! It has been a pleasure to get to know you -long may it continue. Here's to us and all the lovely people on GoY:-)

Lovely! Your heathers compliment the hellebore well. I'm glad to hear that the rain has stopped at last. I agree about spring flowers after Christmas too. I can't bring myself to have them before Christmas, but as soon as January arrives I love to have some narcissi in the house...tulips not before Feb. though or else it makes the wait for them in the garden seem too long. They have them in the supermarkets already though! Happy New Year WR and thanks for doing the blog! X
