Our Christmassy Weekend

On our journey home from our Murder Mystery Weekend (see previous blog) we called in at another National Trust property called Cotehele House.
A garland is made each autumn to hang in the Great Hall and it really is a beautiful sight. All the flowers are grown in the gardens of Cotehele.
This year’s was as lovely as ever.
Here is a close up of the flowers used.
Some of the other rooms were open to the public too so I shall show you these as well.
Hope you are all warm and cosy because it is SO cold at the moment.

I think Cotehele is one of the NT's most magical properties because it is so ancient and not on the huge scale of a lot of their other bulidings. We've been a few times and at Christmas too. Thanks for the lovely reminder of a special place.

I love Cotehele too, though it is a long way from Yorkshire.

Thank you everyone. It is one of my favourite N T houses too but the road leading to it is not nice to drive on!!

Hywel the flowers are grown especially for the garland and are dried after they are picked. Statice, honesty and exochrysums ( the yellow daisy like ones) were mainly used for this garland.
25,000 in all!

Another great house.I haven’t been there, but it has been on TV,
showing them making the garland ( about a year ago, I think it was). Might have been on Countryfile.

Thanks Hywel, Sheila, Bloomer and Feverfew. Your comments were so appreciative.

Lovely to see a close up of these pictures Chris!
They are so beautiful and someone had a lot of patience, not to mention a skill of flower arranging. xx

What a beautiful place to visit, Chris! Lovely to see that "traditional" rustic, Christmas decor and style!

Thanks Rose it was a wonderful sight although a few years ago they used frosty colours and I think that was my favourite so far.
Kate thank you - I too do like 'rustic' so Cotehele really appealed to me. I do like things to look natural.

It's very pretty and must have taken ages to make, I wonder how they keep the flowers looking fresh, they can't water them all every day.
