I don’t have many daylilies that are solid colors, and when they happen, I am not too sure what to do with them. But I like them, and one that I have been enjoying has an almost impossible name of [Buster Ruster x (Fuchsia Four x Grape Splash)] x Sebastian the Crab. The pod parent:
#1:
Red with a yellow throat and a high percentage of polymerous flowers.
I crossed it with ‘Sebastian the Crab’, a double pink.
#2:
Of course, the offspring doesn’t look like either parent, but it has a strong lemon yellow with white mid-ribs.
#3:
In my blog Daylily 10, there was a seedling that made a dramatic change from last year, but its sibling has stayed the same. It is (Mount Herman Wizard x Time Keeper) x Gilded by Grace.
#4:
Not only do seedlings require a settling in period, but when you acquire a named plant, it too can make a few changes the first year or two. Here is ‘Gobbledegook’ last year, and then today:
#5, #6:
Unfortunately, it has proven to be pod infertile and refused to set any seeds.
One of the stars of its area is (Estrella de la Suerte x Dragonfly Dawn). It is a creamy yellow with a purple eye, 7" across.
#7:
Also in bloom is the lovely ‘Etched Eyes’
