A FIRST FOR US!!

A trip to the GC this week for compost, ended up with us buying a new Ribes (we thought it was White Icicle at first) when we got home, I decided to look it up on the internet, and was surprised and delighted to find this……..
Ribes ‘Elkington’s White’
Ribes ‘Elkington’s White’ is something quite special. It is a new form of the flowering current with icy white, pendant flowers. It was discovered as a chance seedling in the garden of Patricia Elkington, the Hampshire representative of the National Gardens Scheme. Luckily Patricia is a great plantswoman and recognised that this was something quite different. It has a neat upright habit unlike other white flowering currants and is really easy to grow. It looks fabulous underplanted with a sea of rich blue pulmonaria or ajuga.
Patricia interviewed us when we applied to get in the Yellow Book, she was also responsible for getting us on film in Japan, a very knowledgable lady, and has been opening her gardens for over 30 years!!
To actually own a plant that has been discovered and named by someone we know is a first for us, also a great honour, I hope it looks as good in our garden as the one in the photograph.

Oh what a treat!
It looks a lovely shrub
Because its new are you allowed to propagate it? Some plants have a warning (or used to) bit like copyright, can't remember.....
The ribes usually strike cuttings quite easily semiripe or hardwood

what a gorgeous plant dd2 I bet you are over the moon.
I love Ribes but lost several in the borders. I cant grow them in my garden now as I have a species of honey fungus in the beds. They are not resistant to it . It has certainly encouraged me to do research
