Nursery time....Grange Farm Guarlford Malvern.

Besides Ashwood Nurseries this is our second favourite.,. lovely plants, helpful owners, and lots of unusual plants in a beautiful setting.

Came across this lovely old bench when walking the dog….
So if ever you are in Worcestershire, do pop in to this great old fashioned nursery, well worthwhile, no tearooms, just plants, this was just half of the nursery, lots of little rooms, full of treasures, on tables, under tables in nooks and crannies, all waiting to be discovered…….. thanks for checking in……Dotty.

It looks great Dd2. In the last two years nearly all of our local ones have closed and one burnt down. Even got itself on BBC news, so close to heathrow flight path.

Oh that's a shame Thorney it's a treat to find places like this,. especially run by the owners who care about their products, you can buy bulbs in brown paper bags, no naff ornaments, tea rooms etc.

What a wonderful place, looks perfect. I can feel from the photos the owners know exactly what real gardeners are looking for.
I would love to visit one day.

Looks a wonderful place to visit and to look around I love that bench.

That looks like a plant heaven! You are very lucky to have this place near you. My favourite nursery is similar, in that there are lots of lovely plants and no tea room. Mind you, I like a good Tea Room if the cakes are home made! :)

Isn't it lovely, and so very clean too. A treasure round every corner?

Looks like you'd be spoilt for choice there, bet no-one leaves empty handed.

Looks like my sort of nursery, pity I've no relatives near.

25 Oct, 2017

Siris you could always visit the RHS Spring Show, and visit the nursery at the same time!
Gg pleased you enjoyed it.....
Greenfinger we certainly have never left empty handed!
Stera it is well looked after, because it is privately owned, and they care,..
Karen this is not near us, in fact it is 3 hours away, luckily our middle daughter lives here, so handy for the nursery and the RHS Spring Show..
3pence isn't that bench delightful, could have taken it home with me!
Dawn you're right, too many plants to choose from well if ever in Malvern you know where to go !

Oh Dotty! Why didn't you post that two months ago? We were in Herefordshire in September and could have visited. Ashwood is one of my husband's favourites though we didn't visit this year (garden is FULL!). They serve a good meal there also.

Once they invited us into the Staff area to view cyclamen! Made my Other Half's day!

(Where is this nursery?)

Oh! I would be worried about my bank balance going near a place like that. I would have to keep my hands in my pockets. Beautiful!

What a lovely place, and like Stera said, so clean and tidy. Since moving here, I have found 2 near me that are privately owned but I just don't get the time to go visit them that offend. Think hubby grateful for that as he keeps banning me from buying any more plants this year, then finds I've sneaked yet another little one home.lol.

Jenlewis glad you like the blog, my OH has given up banning me from buying plants...
Linda not easy to walk away, I can assure you...
Eirlys the nursery is in Malvern, we know Ashwood well, John Massey gave us a private tour of his garden many years ago, and the restaurant is well known for its tasty food!

Looks like a super little nursery. Plant heaven and I like the old bench.

27 Oct, 2017

Thanks Lindak, plant heaven indeed......

So sometime in the future I am going to visit ... Grange Farm Guarlford Malvern, Ashwood Nursery and Malvern RHS Spring show, I feel a weekend away on the cards.
Have you ever visited Beth Chatto's Garden DD?

28 Oct, 2017

that is what I keep telling myself too Dawnsaunt. there are many wonderful gc that I'd like to visit.

28 Oct, 2017

Yes Seaburn, I'm the same but rarely venture, I need to end my employment! I've been looking at Ashwood and John Massey opens his own garden under the NGS on various days next year, one being my birthday!

28 Oct, 2017

Dawn, you have the perfect excuse for an outing if ever one was needed.

29 Oct, 2017

This nursery certainly has lots of good-looking plants! ??

29 Oct, 2017

I hope the owner has set the plants out for Dry Areas,
Shade Areas, Semi-shade areas, Pond areas etc.
Maybe someone could tell them ?

It makes it so much easier, as customers know their own gardens and will appreciate the information.
Beth Chatto did it very successfully.
So many just shove them all together under the initial letters of the plants.

I need plants that can stand up to strong westerly winds.
All I can do is look for plants with strong stems.

Dawn no we have not visited Beth Chatto unfortunately....
Diane it was very well set out, and if you needed to find anything, they knew where to find it...

One day DD x

31 Oct, 2017

Its very difficult to think of shade plants when viewing the whole display. Or heat loving plants come to that.
I doubt if any staff would know either, from my experience of garden centres, they are not gardeners, just smiley smiley check out operators on commission. Sorry.

Diane, I've found that to be true of the chain type nationwide garden centres but not so with the privately owned ones as these are owned & run by dedicated plant people that often specialise such as Mickfield Hosta Nursery or Vicky's Plantagogo (Heuchera) & more general ones such as those DD has written about.
