Wonderful, pictures are really good love it, wish I lived near Bradford to visit this amazing park. Love the swan and the boating lake looks so inviting, I could just do with a row around that lake.

That is an unusual wood sculpture....do you know if it is representative of a culture outside of the UK? This really is a beautiful park and would be within reach for us as a day trip so will put it on 'the list'...thank you for the gorious photos...my special favourite is the tree over the boating lake.

Thanks, AM.

There was no sign by the wooden sculpture but it may well be Indian or Pakistani in origin as there is a large Indian and pakistani population in Bradford. The formal water gardens are based on the gardens designed during the Mughal(mogul) emperors period in India..

Re : the tree over the lake ..... Yes , normally when I take a photo I've got a pretty good idea how well it will come out but that one surprised me. It really is lovely with the sun shining through the leaves.

I live near to Lister Park(about 6 miles away) and as your photos show it is an often overlooked gem in the city of Bradford, well worth a visit, in fact I haven't been for a while and you have prompted me to call and enjoy it again, even though the weather has turned and is very wet.

Lovely photos, beautiful place. Aren't we lucky to have lovely places? The name Bradford just doestn't conjure up thoughts of beautiful places like that, so I feel specially glad that you showed us. You must have a good Council to provide such a park and maintain it so beautifully. Thank you Anchorman for showing us.

Yes Bradford has a bad reputation but in almost all directions you can find open moorland within 3-4 miles of the city centre

Here's a link to my Flickr page showing some of the lovely places close to Bradford

Great photos...Here`s the link to find out what exhibitions are on at the museum in the park http://www.bradfordmuseums.org/cartwrighthall/.
Another interesting note about Lister Park is that it used to have an open air lido which is no more, just a grassy mound remains where it used to be. The park is sometimes known as Manningham Park, I used to go to the grammar school over the road from the park.

I used to go to Belle Vue school but would often leave my bus at Lumb lane and walk down to Manningham lane to catch a bus to Saltaire. I got a place at Bradford Grammar school but finances precluded me from going. I lived for a time at Frizinghall. My mum still lives just off Bolton Road near Bolton junction.

I had a look at the photos of places near Bradford. They're beautiful. Some reminded me of these hills around here ..... It's lovely living with such beautiful scenery isn't it.

I now live in North Cambridgeshire which can be described as flat! It has a beauty of its own but I do love to go back to the Yorkshire dales (I was born in Skipton) and I also love the Lake district where my brother now lives.

If you love the Dales and Yorkshire country side as much as me have a look at the 8 galleries of photos I've collected over the years from Yorkshirephiles on Flickr. ( Click on any thumbnail and it will enlarge to show you the contents.

Hi Anchorman, I used to go quite frequently to that area of Yorkshire as I had a couple of very good friends I would visit & stay with for a few days. They used to live in a small town called Otley. If you are from Skipton then you will know of it.

I liked the photos you have put in this 2nd blog & the 2nd one down is really brilliant!

From your profile information it would seem we have likes in common!

Yes I know Otley quite well and visted there for the first time in many years last year . In my teenage years I lived in Bradford and I used to cycle regularly in the Yorkshire dales, Ilkey,Otley,Grassington,Skipton,Crosshills, keighley etc I was born in Skipton but never lived there although my grandparents did and I visted very frequently.
