Would you like to have a look at my front garden today?
This is the side that I have gravelled, the plants here did very well during the hot dry spell we had last month

Crocosmia ‘George Davidson’ ready to plant at the weekend

Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ happy in the gravel

Outside the front door

Looking across to the other side

I am going to take up the last strip of grass and gravel this side too

Looking back

This is the border beside the drive, I have just had two old Ceonothus taken out of this strip to make space for some sunlovers

Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ enjoying the new sunny spot

~Thank you for coming ~

Nice pampas annella, looks like the cultivar 'Splendid Star' from here ?

And of course you are right Bluespruce! I love the way it always looks good, even on grey winter days :-))

And it's all looking good Annella, looking forward to see what you plant after the rest of the grass has disappeared :)

It looks so tidy and stunning....your plants are thriving. So another project to get on with, Annella...lifting the grass and replanting....will look forward to the finished job. You have a great eye for layout (I especially like the border by your parking area).

It certainly looks good and much tidier then mine, but then it is a different type of garden. Mine is cottagey (?). But I love yours too. Oh for a larger garden !!! Think I will have to think about taking up grass, its becoming a chore to mow.

Front garden is looking lovely, Annella. We replaced the two small grass squares with gravel, which I was concerned about at first, now I'm happy with it as it's South facing and all I've planted so far is thriving. Have many Alliums to plant, to which OH looked in horror at the thought of more cuts to be made in the membrane beneath the gravel ! A job for me when he's out ! : o )))

You have such a beautiful front garden Annella...I have to do something with mine next year...tooo much concrete going on there...:(((

Lovely front garden Annella, I almost brought that Crocosmia 'George Davidson' it was such a lovely yellow, I still might next week......

10 Sep, 2010

Thank you Whistonlass & Cinders. Shirley it makes life so much easier with the gravel, the strip of grass is only there as a path to the side gate till I can get a couple of days to finish it. Men and their membranes..Lol, it's easier to do it yourself :-))
Thanks Michaella, can't imagine you with any concrete. I did a back garden blog yesterday, going blog mad :-)))

10 Sep, 2010

It is lovely Stripes, I wish I had bought one for out the back too :-))

10 Sep, 2010

Lovely front garden Annella with nice planting.A great blog with pix to match.I love gravel gardens and seeing so many on here has inspired me to do an area in my garden as part of my re-design.Thanx for showing us around.

Looking lovely Annella, does the pampas splendid star stay small?? Also love the abelia to, must google, could google pampas too I suppose lol:-))

11 Sep, 2010

It's been in that spot for three years and has stayed the same height so I would say yes Ba :-))))

11 Sep, 2010

Oh no, just noticed only one o in my too. Soooo hard not too try to edit it, slight case of ocd. Thanks Annella:-)

11 Sep, 2010

I get that toooo Ba don't worry :-))

That all looks lovely Ann. I think I might eventually do something similar at my front. The gravel looks the same as mine in the Japanese bit ...York Gold is it? I love that yellow Crocosmia in front of that pine tree, very effective. I think we are the same, in that we like it to be fairly neat and tidy. I am particularly fond of the pots at the door.....lovely! I'm thinking I might do similar but with purple slate chippings at the front, as all my plants are white and yellow and I think that would be a good contrast. the roof slates are grey also, so it would all match in nicely!

11 Sep, 2010

That sounds like a really nice idea Karen. I have to admit that my gravel was the cheapest one they did but I liked the colour.
Thanks DD,Hywel and Spritz, I spent the weekend getting rid of more grass so only a small strip left to go:-))

13 Sep, 2010

How's the back holding out Ann...turf lifting is so exhausting!

13 Sep, 2010

And I have to lug it down the steps to the back gate, the clay is wet and solid so weighs a ton :-(( Good exercise though :-)))

13 Sep, 2010

Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare! Honestly the amount of turf we've dug out over the past four years....well, you can see how much!! Now, just the word 'turf' sends me in to a spin!

13 Sep, 2010

annella its stunning as always, so neat and tidy, not cramped together like mine lol, love it ;o))

13 Sep, 2010

Thank you San :-))
Karen I know what you mean about the turf! I had wall to wall grass and weeds when I moved in, every one of my borders was dug by little old me Lol. I'm so glad I have the field behind, I turn the turfs upside down and lay them under the hedgerow ( try to keep that tidy too).

14 Sep, 2010

That's a good idea Ann, keep some moisture under there too, and they make great compost once theyve rotted down I believe.

14 Sep, 2010

That's absolutely beautiful, Annella - positively inspiring! I was Googling grasses yesterday, looking for a low-growing dark green one, just like the one you have in front of your Crocosmia . . . please could you ID it? Well done for all your hard work.

15 Sep, 2010

Thank you Sheilabub. The dark green clump on the left is Armeria (Thrift or Sea pinks) ever green and covered in dark pink flowers for most of the summer it is a lovely plant with grass like foliage. The lighter green plant next to it is a clump of Chives :-)))

15 Sep, 2010

I enjoyed the tour round your front garden, Annella, so much to see. I particularly like the Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ and your lovely block paving. Your yellow crocosmia looks great and reminded me that I bought one some years ago called Canary something but it seems to have disappeared and I hadn't even missed it until now.

16 Sep, 2010

Nicely planted garden. I love it

16 Sep, 2010

Thanks Anchorman, I have just come in 8.30 from digging up some more of the turf. Work gets in the way of my garden :-))))

16 Sep, 2010

Thanks Gee, I had the Abelia in a pot last winter so I could see it from the kitchen, now I can see it from the office :-))

16 Sep, 2010

This looks sooo good, I must admit you seem to have the same style of gardening as Karen, love your planting you both have a good eye for what goes with what.......was about to ask about the grass, so it is Pampas ? have you any close ups please, have a grass are that could do with some more colour.

21 Sep, 2010

It is a Pampas Dotty and I posted a pic about 2 weeks ago, but will post another soon as the seed heads are comimg now :-))

21 Sep, 2010

Well....now that I relocated your blog (thanks for that, Ann) it all comes back to me now...lol What a terrible memory I have trying to keep all the gardens matched up with their gardeners!!

I even commented last September on this very blog how lovely your garden was.

I'll look forward to your updates....it's all looking so pretty.
