Rhys An Update

It is now over four weeks since I posted the picture of my new born Great Grandson, since then i have not felt it appropriate to post further pictures as he struggled to come to terms with his early arrival.
Soon after I posted the picture he was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital and into there intensive care unit as he struggled with an unknown chest infection, covered in monitors and tubes over two weeks he gradually improved and was placed in a high dependency cot in a ward with other babies
Oh so tiny.
To move on, the middle of last week he was considered well enough to make his third move this time to Salisbury Hospital where as i understand it he will stay for a further four weeks until he is full term.
This partly done as his mother lives slightly closer to it than Bath RHS where he was born.
He now is starting to look like how I expected him to look although I still have the feeling he would have preferred still being inside his Mum.
Thank you to all have enquired how after him,in the not distant future I hope to be able to hold him and post another picture.

Lol, Cannahave :)
On the last picture he seems as if saying:"Do not worry, Mom, it will be OK. Just hold my hand. That milk was good." :)) Say hello to little warrior for me, Brian :)

our first had to go straight into an incubator, tested all of our strengths. That was 36 years ago & feels like yesterday. However, she is fine & fit & a mum herself now. Ava our grandaughter is 3 in November. I love being grandad to four priceless grandchildren.
Ok Great Grandad BJS, Rhys looks chipper & look forward to his xmas photo with his santa hat on ( you just have to dont you ? ) I know I did LOL !!!

We had an early baby by nine weeks arrive this summer in our family. Esther was only 3 lbs when she was born and it was come and go for her and her mother. She is now 10lbs and a joy to us all especially her granny .....my cousin. We visited her in Cornwall in July and she was so relaxed and loved by her two big brothers. It is amazing how such small babies thrive. Having said that I was only 4 lbs at birth. Perhaps Rhys will be another gardener Brian.

Bjs.....he's coming on great. My son was premature and like Rhys spent his first few weeks in hospital - they are little fighters, that's for sure.
The work done in these Neonatal/Special Care baby units is incredible - we are so lucky to have such dedicated doctors and nurses.
It won't be long until he is running around under you feet and you will wonder where the time has gone :))

Have only just come across this blog Bjs - your great grandson is looking good, pleased he is putting on weight and looks like he is well aware of what is going on around him now. So pleased he is doing so well, thank goodness for doctors and nurses with special care units who look after these tiny babies so well. Enjoy he looks great. :O) Congratulations to everyone. :O)

So very relieved to see the good progress he is making. What a little darling, who has had a bit of a struggle so far. I hope that he will flourish as the weeks go by and I send all of you my very best wishes.

Junna
He has thankfully moved on since these pictures were taken.Makes me shudder to think back to when he was in the incubator we did not realize then how close we were to loosing him
Still has a few problems one being his hearing already hearing aids have been fitted to see just how much he can hear.there are more recent pictures of him if you have not already seen them.

My grand daughter now 6 has a hearing defect but it was not recognised until she went to school and the school nurse picked up on it. Her parents thought she had selective hearing but nothing more than that. It has not held her back in any way because she seems to have developed a way of lip reading all on her own. Every year her school has an experiences day. She chose to try sign language. The teacher was amazed that she wanted to do it and although she was the youngest only 4 years and 4 months was also the most receptive of those doing the class. Children are very good at overcoming obstacles and I'm sure Rhys will too.

My nephew was born partially deaf, nothing on one side and only halfhearing on the other, he is the most brilliant organist, choirmaster & teacher of music!! :)
