Another Colne Valley Walk..

This is close to where we live..such a beautiful day,on Sunday,so we caught the bus up to the top of the very steep road…all hills round here ..and walked along the Reservoir, called Blackmoorfoot..This was built in 1870 to serve the needs of the Industrial textile Mills, and the local people..and still does.It took 5 years,by hundreds of Labourers,to complete,at a height of 832 feet above sea level. It is set amid Moorland scenery, and very popular with walkers, also a haven for Bird watchers and Anglers..
Deer Hill in the Background, and Lancashire beyond.
continuing our walk ..on the flat, and then all downhill from there :o)..
These rocks are near the biggest stone Quarry in our area..and a place for motor bike scramblers, just behind..
and no,I didn’t climb up them ! :o)
The small hamlet of Blackmoorfoot. The building in the bottom right, used to be for the water purifying treatment.but is now flats..as a new one was built some time ago..
Hello :o) There is a big stable and horse riding facilites nearby, very popular at weekends..
As you can tell, lots of horses use this pathway ..it took a bit of clever footwork to get round this..in several places!
In the hedgerow the last Rose of summer?
..and the Beautiful Hips..
Off the dirt track now,and on to an access lane,to some Cottages Stables, and more Horses,…:o).The owner of these, bags up the Manure, and leaves them on top of the wall, for anyone who wants some..a great idea..if you aren’t walking another mile or so ! We might drive up there one day,and collect some:o)
This photo is for Waddy..a few memories there for you :o)…your old school,Colne Valley High…and OH and daughter went there too.It is now a Specialist Art school….
..and the large building on the left,is their new Sports Hall..
Approaching the Cottages..all converted now..
A nice barn conversion ..
.
Probably Weaver’s cottages..as all were 3 Story’s high
A view of Linthwaite Church.the area we are in now…
and looking towards the other side of the Valley,to Golcar..our daughter and family live in one of those houses to the top left on the Hill..nice and handy for us all :o)
On the downward road now,and heading towards the Church
A short cut through the Cricket field, looking back to where we were..
Another 20 minutes walk, and we were back home..a nice cuppa, and so good to get the shoes off ..OH still felt energetic,so he cut and scarified the lawn..I watched ! :o)
Hope you enjoyed the walk with us..

Thank you Flori, you are so kind:o)..we do appreciate where we live..The hills are a bit of a bind sometimes, but they certainly add character to our part of Yorkshire..:o).We were so lucky to have such a lovely day..so warm,I had my jacket off all the time..unlike the past couple of days...just the same here too..pretty grim!

Glad you enjoyed the walk,Scottish..thank you..you have lots of lovely scenery in your part of Scotland too...I like to add a little bit of the history of places we go to.,as I enjoy it as well :o).

Thank you,Pam..the sun is a distant memory now! ..It was very calm by the Reservoir, considering it is so high up..It's not often it's like that, believe me..so we caught it at it's best..:o)

Wasn't it a beautiful day?
That was quite a walk wasn't it but so very interesting. I am impressed with your stamina and am glad you avoided the muddy patch! Such lovely, rolling scenery.
23 Oct, 2012
It was,Chris..and a pleasure to get out and about..Lol,about the Stamina..it was all on the flat and downhill ! :o)...there were about three of those darned muddy patches..I clung to the dry stone walls !...Glad you enjoyed a small part of our area..:o)

It is full of charm and character, a lovely spot to live.
23 Oct, 2012
Thank you,Chris..we have mainly old stone houses and lovely buildings here..which adds so much to the character of the place..I love them:o)

Thank you,Snoopdog..and I hope you can get out and about very soon..it must be very limiting and frustrating for you ..

So glad you included the pic of the reservoir - it reminded me of the ones near my birthplace in Sheffield- such a long time since I saw them.
23 Oct, 2012
Thanks Stera..glad it brought some nice memories back for you..they look so calming and peaceful, don't they?
23 Oct, 2012
Well you sure picked the best day for your outing Sandra, it looks grand in your photo`s and I`m very relieved you didn`t have a mishap negotiating the muddy bits, lol, I realised looking at your pics that its ages since we took a walk around Rutland Water, you`ve now given me a yearning, lol....

A lovely walk - and so interesting. Thanks for sharing. :o)
24 Oct, 2012
Oops,Sorry Amy,I missed you out there..It must have been while I was out looking for some rocks for you.Lol. thank you for your nice comment..:o)
24 Oct, 2012
Thanks Sue..we certainly did pick the best day, didn't we?
I would wait a while before you revisit Rutland..not exactly walking weather this week ! Same again today, dark, damp and foggy..only thing going for it,it isn't cold ...but would prefer it to this..Looks like it will be,by weekend !
24 Oct, 2012
Thank you,Nariz..not as spectacular as your lovely mountains, but high enough for me :o)
24 Oct, 2012
My goodness Sandra, that was some walk! Your Blog was really interesting to read...I loved the photos..you're a real 'David Bailey' I know the area quite well, although it's many years since I've walked around it...perhaps I should put that right when I'm germ free and the sunshines again.
The picture of Colne Valley certainly brought back memories...as did the horse riders...I used to hire a Hack from a riding school at the top of Varley Rd ...don't know if it's still there..and often rode the route you took...I was probably responsible for my share of churned up pathways :0
24 Oct, 2012
Glad you enjoyed it,Waddy..nice to bring some good memories back, isn't it ? ..The walk behind the School is a favourite of ours..but we don't usually do the Reservoir
as well ! I don't know if there is still one at the top of Varley road..and I'm not walking up it to find out ! Lol.
hope you are feeling better today..the weather is so miserable again.:o(.....I did a couple of blogs a while ago, about Slaithwaite, and other places round about..if you have nothing better to do till you get better,or get outside ,. you may want to have a look ,it will pass a bit of time on :o) I love your new Avatar of Freya..what a little charmer :o)
24 Oct, 2012
Well a lovely breath of fresh air and Gorgeous scenery on our ramble Sandra very enjoyable and I managed to gettheironing done at the same timelol seriously we will have to walk it together some fine day ;0))
24 Oct, 2012
Thank you ,Carole,,Now if only you hadn't been putting your garden to bed,you would have been very welcome to come with us..and yes,a good way to contend with the Ironing..hope there isn't a scorch mark on Harry's best shirt..He will have to sit on his own,for dinner ! Lol.
24 Oct, 2012
Thats an idea, he wont be able to pinch my dinner then lol
24 Oct, 2012
Or mine,Russell's and the Captains ! Lol..poor Harry,we do give him some stick, don't we? ..only joking folks,he isn't really like that..if you keep an eye on him :o)))
24 Oct, 2012
Sometimes 'spectacular' is too much - you just want 'rolling, green and peaceful' for a change, but I have to say, a week in Essex, pretty though the countryside is, makes me appreciate my mountains even more when I return! ;o)
25 Oct, 2012
I agree,Nariz..I love visiting other places too,and flat is nice for a change..but give me the hills and Valley's anytime :o)..We visit Lincolnshire to see friends sometimes, and lovely as it is,I get excited going over a speed hump on the journey! Lol...although the Wolds have nice gentle ups and downs .:o))
25 Oct, 2012
'Gentle' is what we don't have here! 'Rugged', 'craggy', 'rocky' and any other variation on that description, but 'gentle'? No. :o)
26 Oct, 2012
Lol,Nariz..you are much more robust than me..I would fall at the first hurdle ..or Mountain ! :o)
26 Oct, 2012
Lovely hedgerow roses and hips, just what I want in my garden!
26 Oct, 2012
Thank you,Dixie..the Hips were so large and vibrant..I hope you get some for your garden..
