We were treated to a lovely two day break at a nice Hotel,by our daughter, for my recent birthday gift, which came as a complete surprise, but a very welcome one..
It was very near to Tatton Park,so we decided to visit on our journey there..we arrived there mid morning..just in time for a coffee in their lovely cafe..as they usually are at NT properties..:o) anyway,I digress.

Tatton Park is regarded as one of Britain’s..most complete historic estates, with evidence of Stone Age people hunting on the site. The Estate was acquired by the
Egerton family in 1598,until the death of the last Baron in1958,when the estate was left to the National Trust..

2.000 acres of landscaped deer park, meres woodland, and farmland make up the Estate..so we didn’t see the half of it in the time we had,so we had better get walking..I shall have to do the visit in two parts,as there was so much to see,and you might nod off otherwise..:o)
This is the main central area, known as the Stableyard..for obvious reasons..comprising of various other amenities within…

The Stables Cafe..first stop..did I mention ’Margaret’s Scones ’? thank you,whoever you are.:o)

Outside the small garden shop.

Lovely home made goodies in here :o)

This is the start of our walk..

We loved this stone carved seat..

Topiary..not the best side of the bird on top ..

This is better.

.

We will walk to the end of this lovely avenue of trees to the Monument..

Passing the Gunnera’s on the way..

The roots are enormous!

..and a flower/seed head

Time to sit and take a break by the lake ,in the sunshine, and so tranquil..

This is the end of part one,so on the way back,we will visit the Japanese garden in part two..I hope you have enjoyed the walk with us so far…

Lovely Bloomer I love the carved stone seat and metal Gazebo so elegant, The Gunnera roots were enormous I suppose they have to be to support those massive leaves I bet you enjoyed your coffee and scone after your journey, I look forward to part two and the now....:o)

Lovely blog! I work in Knutsford, just a couple of miles from Tatton, but I never go there, probably because I associate it with where I work! Must make the effort and go sometime, though it's quite expensive and you have to pay for parking too, that's another thing that puts me off! Looks worth it though. Look forward to part 2.

I love walking around NT properties and gardens - I can take myself back in time... Sometimes I'm the gardener surveying the fruits of my labours... or a maid serving afternoon tea on the lawns... and sometimes I'm the Lady of the house taking a gentle stroll, walking down steps in such elegant gowns... I can do all this and still hold a full conversation with OH! Imagination is just wonderful! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Bloomer :o)))

We called in Tatton earlier in the year on the way back home from scotland, the cafe that you showed in the courtyard was a mass of people, very popular place on a sunny day.....
We did the house tour first then had a coffee, it was a little quieter then. Not time for much more but will I hope go back and spend time in the gardens, especially now I see what we missed. ;0)

I've been to the garden show at Tatton Park, Sandra, but as my gardening friend and I always went by coach, never left enough time to see the house and gardens. What a lovely surprise for you ! I enjoyed seeing it all , and think thats the nearest I'll ever get, so thank you for sharing.

One of our favourites Sandra, just love Tatton so much to see and the setting is perfect. We have had many a scone and Coffee in the Stables Cafe and I can never resist buying a little gift from the Housekeepers store. the Broad walk is magnificent and the Trees just wonderful, so pleased you wrote this blog I had forgot what a great day out can be had here, look foward to part two ;0))

We belong to the NT but don't get up that way very much to use it, we should make the effort to do the rounds one year , we need more TIME to fit everthing in , can anybody explain how on earth we found time to go to work ? Tatton looks a fabulous place to visit Sandra I'm glad you ejoyed your surprise birthday treat ,I shall look forward to the 2nd blog :o) x

Thank you Neellan,The stone seat is wonderful ,isn't it? it was nice to sit there a little while..those Gunnera roots stretched out like tree trunks, they were so thick and long..it is even mentioned on the map as an attraction, and it certainly was..The scone was delicious,,we shared, as they were so big ..lunch was nice too :o)
.........
Thank you,Louisa..I didn't realise you worked so near..even NT members ,have to pay £5 for the car park,so it would be expensive if you wanted to visit the gardens, and Mansion House as well, all extras for non members..but you can go on nice walks ,for free, and visit the cafe and shops etc..still a nice day out..lots of deer in the parks, which we didn't have time to see.I'm glad you enjoyed your visit with us for the time being :o)
...........
Thank you Petaltracey,I know what you mean about imagination....but although it sounds to be an ideal life,I would have probably been the scullery maid,or the one who scraped the ashes out of the fireplace to light a fire every day,in those freezing stone clad rooms ! :o)
I much prefer your optimism Lol.
...........
Thanks Pam,you must go again, and see the rest of it..we didn't manage the Mansion house,or some other things of interest,as the house doesn't open till noon,in low season..but we loved everything we saw..which took us three hours ! at a leisurely pace,of course,or slower ! :o) A full day would be wonderful ...
......
It's a shame it's so far for you to go again,Rose..we have been before, but there was a craft fair on,so we didn't have time to look round much either..and we were staying with friends nearby,so it was they who took us..I've always wanted to go to the flower show..one day maybe :o).There are usually lots of coach trips with overnight stays ,which would be nice.as.trying to find somewhere to park would be a nightmare,I imagine,if we went in the car..and it is only an hour and 15 minutes from us..thank you,and pleased you enjoyed it with us :o)
........
Thank you Carole..I wonder if 'Margaret' made the scones when you went? so good aren't they? :o)
It is definitely one of the nicest NT places we have been to..coming very close to Fountain's Abbey,as a favourite..I never realised how big it was..and wished we could have stayed longer..but afternoon tea was awaiting us at the Hotel :o)
......

Can't wait to see the Japanese garden...for me..the best thing at Tatton by far...hurry up Bloomer! ;))

15 Oct, 2013

Thank you Hywel,it is your kind of place,I'm sure ..and we loved that building with the lovely clock too..I see it was approx 11.10am....we had just had a morning coffee, before setting out to explore :o).I hope you will like part two,as much..when I get round to it :o)
..........
Thank you Amy,I agree, how did we find time to work?
We haven't made as much use of our membership this year either..and have seen most of them in our area now..it's just getting so expensive ,plus the cost of driving to these wonderful places..so we decided not to renew them this year, and they expire at the end of this month...very sad really, but I think £92 a year now,is too expensive..especially when new members are tempted by much lower offers..but that happens with everything, doesn't it? car insurance,etc..Anyway,we can always pay at the entrance,if we decide to visit one in the future..which we probably will..Thanks to a thoughtful daughter,we were able to go to Tatton...and also Dunham Massey,on the way home :o)

15 Oct, 2013

I might not renew mine either...haven't used it once in two years now! Could give it to children in need instead...seems a waste, but then again..it goes towards garden upkeep doesn't it...hmmm.

15 Oct, 2013

B.Hell ,Karen..give a girl a break ! Lol..I toiled all last evening doing half of it ..and trying to watch Strictly, and Downton Abbey at the same time :o)) your wish will be granted shortly..before you move,anyway.. .ha ha.

15 Oct, 2013

Lol....so lazy!

15 Oct, 2013

That's me Karen ! but what a multi tasker :o).I should have waited till tonight to do the blog...football on !!! :o((

15 Oct, 2013

I agree,Karen..so many other things we could do with the money..our favourite charities would be a good idea..:o)and maybe share it with a plant buying spree ? :o)

15 Oct, 2013

Nice that you shared your trip with us Bloomer as I have not visited Tatton mainly because our NT membership expired last year and we haven`t renewed. I get more pleasure these days visiting Ngs gardens and its much cheaper.

18 Oct, 2013

you are welcome anytime,Stroller..It seems it's not only us that haven't renewed their membsership lately, and it is a shame..but for the amount of places we can visit, unless we are prepared to spend a fortune on petrol,it is just too much now..I might take a look at NGS,or RHS,maybe English Heritage too...we can then see what our options are ..glad you enjoyed Tatton with us..:o)
I really must make a start on part two, before CottageKaren has another go at me ! Lol.

18 Oct, 2013

Erm...was just going to say! ;)

18 Oct, 2013

Don't you dare ! :o) anyway, haven't you any packing to do or anything ?? you seem to have time on your hands .Lol...I'm starting anytime now :o)

18 Oct, 2013

It IS a very impressive place to visit Bloomer and I love that ornamental stone seat and entrance to the kitchen garden. I am glad that you had such a great time there and it has been lovely to see it again. I think there was a flower show there when we last visited.

We are still members of the NT because there are a lot of their properties quite close by and membership means that we get free parking at some of their coastal sites too!

18 Oct, 2013

I neeeeed distractions!

18 Oct, 2013

Thank you Chris,,you know just what I mean, with having been there before..well worth a visit at anytime,I think..
It was a big decision to not renew our membership, but it's done now,and you are lucky to have so many more than us nearby..We have been to Fountain's Abbey four times since we joined, and will still visit again in the future..and Brimham rocks, which is also near to where we stay in the Dales..I shall just have to open my purse instead ,or get Russell to pay, which is nearer the mark :o)

18 Oct, 2013

I have given you distractions,Karen..put that bottle away..is it half full or half empty ? Lol.

18 Oct, 2013

It was full....and now it's empty...but don't worry, I've moved on to fizzy pop now!

18 Oct, 2013

21 Oct, 2013

What is a week between friends,Shirley :o).You aren't being forceful enough with him ! Lol. if you are reading this Michael,we don't bite, and you don't need to bring a flat cap or clogs anymore..unless you want to,that is :o)

21 Oct, 2013

That pub name sounds familiar,Cristina..is it by Lyme or Lymm park, where there are lots of Deers?

28 Oct, 2013

Lymm yes with the deer .. Love it there ?

28 Oct, 2013

I thought it might be...It must be nearly 40 years since we were their,as My OH's cousin and his wife took us when they lived on the outskirts of Manchester, and we used to stay over for weekends..I don't think there are many pubs with that name..I mainly remember the deers,as we didn't go in the pub..but it still comes to mind :o)
