They are ideal for children with having no soil to bother with,Sue,especially on the lounge carpet ! Lol..I put them somewhere cool and dark for a couple of weeks,so he was fascinated to be able to see the roots forming...erm,the smell is a bit overpowering,so they now live in the Conservatory! :o)

Start them early Bloomer! :)) he might be the next AT!
18 Feb, 2014
Well done ! :o))
18 Feb, 2014
Lol Karen..I'd much prefer him to be more like Chris Beardshaw ! :o)
18 Feb, 2014
Thank you Hywel,I will tell him when he comes tomorrow..it will be the first thing he will do..go and check how much they have grown :o)
18 Feb, 2014
Oh Bloomer, I can smell them from here! Well done Thomas.
Wherever can I get one for Freya, she'd love that...in pink of course!
18 Feb, 2014
I was just going to say the same - could almost smell them! Well done Thomas.

Give him a pat on the back from me too.

It was from Sainsbury's,Waddy...not sure if they are still on sale now,as they were 'after Christmas' sales. Can you believe they were labelled 'best before 14/1/14'? ...Marc bought it for me the week previous, plus a boxed Amaryllis, already potted up..that is in flower now as well...
They were both gifts for feeding him, over the past few months :o)..very much appreciated too..It said to keep them in the dark, and cool, for 10/14 weeks ,but mine was only there for 2,as roots had formed, and it had already grown 4cms..I guess that's if you want it to flower at a specific time.. Neither Thomas or I,had the patience to wait that long :o)
18 Feb, 2014
Thank you Sue..I am just as thrilled as Thomas..even though we didn't adhere to the stated growing regime,it
turned out well any way... from start to now, only 6 weeks..It really is very strong smelling,so it had to be moved, but I can see it from our lounge..behind Patio doors !..Apparently ,the blue ones are the most pungent..
.............
I will Scottish..and maybe a treat as well..they need lots of praise and encouragement ,don't they? ,He has also been topping it up,with a minimum amount of water, when he comes,so it really is 'all his own work' :o)
18 Feb, 2014
Lol..I know what you mean! :))
18 Feb, 2014
Eye Candy,Karen,as well as a great gardener..:o) erm,for Grandma,not Thomas ! lol..
18 Feb, 2014
Well Done Thomas you clever boy your very own plant success :o)
18 Feb, 2014
Hi neelan! Yes bloomer...and also very intelligent! Did you know that he has constant pain with arthritis? I was amazed when I found out. You'd never think it would you?
18 Feb, 2014
Well done Thomas!and Grandma of course!!
19 Feb, 2014
Don't they look pretty planted like that? Not seen this way of planting them before, I'll have a go myself next year. Tell clever Thomas he's inspired me :-))
19 Feb, 2014
Thanks Neellan..He hasn't seen them open like this yet,as they were only showing a tinge of blue last week,so there will be a big grin today :o)
.....
Thanks Val,I was just the bystander, holding the glass pot..and suggesting..:o)
......
There are three bulbs in there,Ba..almost but not touching each other..It said to rest them on a layer of the pebbles first, then fill up and around the tips.with the rest...you just add the tiniest bit of water, which doesn't touch the base of the bulbs..roots appeared in no time..and that's it..just add a little more water,if they look as though it's been taken up..
Just shows you don't need soil for some plants..I expect to see a photo of yours next year ! :o)Thomas will judge :o) x
19 Feb, 2014
Lovely project for you both ... I also find the scent a bit too strong but love the flowers ... I bet Thomas was delighted to see them ... :o)
19 Feb, 2014
Thanks Shirley, Thomas hasn't arrived yet..we are picking him up from Nursery, later this afternoon..I.m sure he will be thrilled..If he's anything like Grandad, who likens the smell to Cat pee,(,such a drama queen) ..:o) ..he will turn his nose up ! I must say,I couldn't live with it in the house..I hope it doesn't put him off gardening ! Lol..
19 Feb, 2014
Very good Bloomer.
19 Feb, 2014
It will be beans in a jam jar next......this is much more fun!
maybe he could sow some flower seeds in the spring, in a pot maybe.....
19 Feb, 2014
Your little Thomas is a great little gardener tell him well done from me and I love his flowers .
19 Feb, 2014
Thanks Johnjoe..I think all children enjoy doing things like this,if given the chance..
19 Feb, 2014
I agree Pam,at least he can see a colourful result..Pot and seeds already sorted for spring sowing.I.forgot about them last year, then it was too late :o)
19 Feb, 2014
Thanks 3d..I will pass your kind message on...anytime soon..:o)
19 Feb, 2014
Thanks for the info Sandra, if Thomas is to judge my efforts next year, I'll bribe him with sweeties:-))
19 Feb, 2014
I'm sure those would be most welcome,Ba..you are sure to win first prize ! :o)
19 Feb, 2014
:-) Thank you Bloomer
20 Feb, 2014
A high-five to Thomas - Good job. They look great!
20 Feb, 2014
Thanks Paul.I have been trying unsuccessfully to take a photo of him with the Hyacinths, but no joy I'm afraid..As soon as he sees the camera,he is off,or covering his face with his hands..looks like his photo shoot days are over..:o)
20 Feb, 2014
Oh don't they look lovely Bloomer? He will be so chuffed to see them in flower! I think it is great encouraging children to grow plants..xxx\0/
21 Feb, 2014
Thanks Flori..I'm hoping he wil be my gardening buddy,in the future..maybe 'helper' isn't the right word just yet :o) \O/.xx
21 Feb, 2014
Just seen all your recent comments Sandra. I've probably missed my chance to get one of these in Sainsbugs by now...never mind, something to look out for later this year. Freya is thrilled to bits that her Sunflower seeds are 'growing Grandma!' and as for the Eggshell Cress, a true winner, although she wasn't too keen on the taste lol!
You'll have to sneak up on Thomas and get that picture.
21 Feb, 2014
More than likely by now,Waddy..but you might see something else that Freya could grow..she seems to be happy anyway, with what she has :o) If the cress had been already mixed with the egg,she might have like it ! Lol..cruel you, scooping it out first..it would have been a bit smelly though :o)
21 Feb, 2014
Well done Thomas , I bet his little face was beaming when they bloomed ,he should be proud of himself . I wonder what will be next ?
21 Feb, 2014
Bloomer, what kind of Grandma do you think I am? Of course I mixed it with a very buttery egg, but it didn't still seem to get past the, 'I no like that!'
I think we'll try growing beans next. :)
21 Feb, 2014
Thanks Amy,he was delighted..and it will be seed sowing soon,..we need to get motivated first,at least,I do :o)
21 Feb, 2014
Aw Waddy,at least you tried I guess egg and cress sandwiches will be off the birthday party menu then ? good luck with the beans :o)
21 Feb, 2014
I missed this Bloomer, what a lovely idea! I laughed at Waddy's 'I no like that' comment, how many time did I hear 'No, I no likey!' from Jamie when he was young......Doesn't stop eating now!
27 Mar, 2014
Thanks Annie..he was so happy watching them open..He brought his Mother's day card he made yesterday, when we picked him up from Nursery..and I said what a lovely Daffodil it was..He said it's not a Daffodil,it's a flower ! Lol..He had also made a bun for her..but two minutes later, there were just crumbs left..maybe next year, she will get lucky, and even see it ! Lol
Don't you just love em ? :o)
27 Mar, 2014
Love it Sandra! Bless him.
27 Mar, 2014
So funny,I had to laugh at him.I took him out in the garden to look at a 'Jetfire' daffodil,as his looked similar with the Orange trumpet..big beaming smile when he realised :o) Hope we all manage to get a slice of the birthday cake I've made for his 4th birthday next week..it will be decorated with Smarties :o) I know which will get eaten first !
27 Mar, 2014
