It has been such a beautiful day,so after a trip out high above the hills in The Holme Valley, near Holmfirth( Last of the Summer Wine fame) for a wonderful Sunday Carvery lunch,we decided to visit our favourite garden centre nearby, for a coffee, and to admire the scenery..
Unfortunately,I didn’t take my camera,as we hadn’t planned to go..That will teach me ! ..so I am posting photo’s from May 2010..I can’t believe this was almost 4 years ago..!.
Considering the time of year now,it almost looks the same..apart from the Cygnets…The Black Swans are still as lovely as ever..:o)
and so is the scenery…
Nice coffee too..:o) It felt so good to get out in the fresh air, which it certainly is up there..all cobwebs blown away :o)

No I didn't Val..It is only a small family run GC..so there is only one poly tunnel open at the moment..with a small selection..but come late spring and summer ,there are lots to choose from..mainly summer bedding..I wish we had known you were in Holmfirth,as both Carole and I live about 20 minutes from there..we could have met up,time permitting for you..maybe another time?

You didn't say I should have told you when I was in Holmfirth so you could meet up with me ....huh. You know my lifetime's ambition is to be photographed with you.... it's sort of a GOY rite of passage:-)) It's been lovely here too, it really did feel like spring, fantastic. I almost believed we had seen the last of the incessant rain and wind:-)

Lol..and methinks you are telling porkies,my dear..you had such a full schedule at the time,as I remember ! :o) ..They have a bit of an obsession with Thongs,Stroller,...Upper thong,Nether thong,Thongs bridge..but don't let it put you off,they aren't compulsory ! :o)

Oh great, pleased you had a good time, its really turned up trumps today and was really lovely, shame about the camera, what you like Sandra?? Never mind I too remember your visit before and it was defintely added to our places to visit list.........Love those names.
16 Feb, 2014
Thanks Sue..a bit of info about the names..Upperthong
may be derived from the Danish 'thing'..a place of military gathering..
Netherthong, also suggests a link to the Viking invaders
who took control over large areas of North east England..
It could also be derived form the Viking word,'Thong' meaning a strip of land.
Upperthong as it's name suggests,is set on higher ground, whilst Netherthong is the lower...Courtesy of Wikipedia :o) I left a gap in between the names,on my first comment..which I knew wasn't correct..but they were underlined as not being recognised..in America ! either that,or our local signposts have done it wrong for years !!! :o)
