I thought I would remind you, about warm days of summer last year, after this long cold winter..Our plants are starting to wake up,which is a good sign of days to come…Till then, you will have to make do with this :o).
some of you have seen photo’s of this wonderful place before,as it’s always been a favourite of ours..I couldn’t revisit ,without taking even more ..
………….
The approach by sea..

Starting the long haul up ..

You take your life in your hands, when watching the Italian style of driving, and have to get as close to the walls as you can….scary! but almost there..

Made it to the top,all in one piece, and a view of the Harbour..The boats sail over to Capri, and also along the Almalfi Coast..a much more appealing way, than negotiating the hairpin bends by road..

A walk through a small park, stopping to admire the Statue, and a lovely Hibiscus..

Time to hit the town, with it’s many quaint narrow streets..luckily,mostly car and mad driver free :o)

Smiley tiles :o)

Piazza Tasso..the main hub of the town…named after a poet,Torquato Tasso.
The largest buildings in both photo’s were formally a Palace, and a Baroque Church..transformed in the 17th century, but a Family house as early as the 15th Century stood on the site..One of the buildings is now a Museum..

A more leisurely form of transport..Isn’t he a beauty? He was so placid, and didn’t object to me stroking him..:o)

Strolling on,we came upon this magnificent tree, said to be around 200 years old..and protected by the railings..just look at those roots !
Now,Goyers, this is where you come in..!
I have no idea what this tree is,as there was no information..can you help?
Tree ID isn’t my thing,..the leaves seemed familiar, but the brain won’t tell me ..:o)

A walk back to the promenade ,to take a look at the sunbathing, and swimming area.no sand to speak off,so the jetties were built instead.. ,. There is no way up or down other than walking..This presented no problem on our first visit,in 1999,on our silver Wedding Anniversary..the second time, was two years ago,and oh boy,did we struggle to get back up that hill ! ..so this time,on our visit for our 40th Anniversary.we just looked ,and admired the view from the top ! Lol.

Almost time to catch the tender back to the ship, which is anchored out at sea,….just looks as though it is over my left shoulder. :o).and a wonderful day with lots of memories..why are we smiling? we just found out there is a lift to get you down to the bottom in 10 seconds flat..just by that park in the first photo’s ,also to bring you up as well..after all these years, and we never knew it was there ! dumb,or what? lol

I hope you enjoyed a bit of sun and summer days..lets hope for another in 2015…x

Just so beautiful! Did you watch Italy Unpacked? I only saw the last one, but it was just beautiful and really made me long to go back to Italia. Surely the most beautiful country on earth?!

Thank you for a tour of the Italian Countryside. I love the rough terrain but most of all, the cuisine. Happy Anniversary.

I would LOVE to walk in the Dolomites. We were in the foothills around Lake Garda..oh, it must be about 13 or 14 years ago now. Stunning!

Lovely trip Sandra thank you for sharing, sorry I can't help identifying the ancient tree, so pleased you found the lift sounds like a life saver! :o)

What a wonderful holiday you had Bloomer. I love Italian countryside too. Especially around Verona and Lake Garda. I traveled the country on my own for 4 months in a little car when I was younger. It was broken into 3 times. Despite of that I have fond memories of that trip.

What a lovely blog Bloomer - we have never been to Italy yet - but it is definitely on my to visit list - I don't know what the tree is - did you go to Capri?

1 Mar, 2015

That sounds good,Karen.Lake Garda is somewhere we would like to visit ..We only called in at Sirmione once, after a trip out to Verona when we stayed in Lido de Jesolo..must be at least 20 or more years ago..time just goes by doesn't it?

Thank you Neellan, glad you enjoyed the visit..it was more good luck we spotted that lift..Saved us the risk of getting mown down by a Fiat, Scooter,Taxi,or the shuttle bus! Lol..x

Thank you Klahanie..you sound as though you had a wonderful time, despite the damage to your car..how awful..I don't think the Architecture and History of Italy, can be beaten....My favourite place of all is Florence..I could quite happily go back time and time again..and Venice ,of course..

It looks really lovely there Sandra and I feel better already!
Well...you'll know what to do next time, instead of walking ! You two sound just like us ! Hahaa!

Thank you,Ba..they were just an odd looking couple of posers..or so the lady who took it,must have thought :o)

Thank you Jane..I hope you do get to visit Italy one day, whichever part you go to,is lovely in it's own way..and yes,we did go to Capri, the first time we visited ..so easy to go yourselves on the ferry..and only about 30 minutes,if that..Pompeii is also easy to get to,on the local train..definitely a must.We went on a package holiday ,which always includes trips to both, and to the top of Vesuvius,if you don't mind heights ! That was always one of my dream things to do .No worries, the coach takes you more than half way up,to a car park..and then it's just a gentle winding slope to that top..which is flat ! maybe you could put Sorrento on your wish list now..:o)

What a super blog Sandra. I can almost feel the warming Italian sun and those views...wow! As you know, I've been to Italy several times, but never to Sorrento, I think it will have to put on my 'Bucket List'. You're right about the Italian drivers too..totally mad lol!
