The sunshine brought out the best in me today, and also my Camera..
Firstly,a Poinsettia,I treated myself to,for Christmas..It’s the first time I have had one,and I’m happy it seems to be doing well, despite the fact one of it’s stems was broken, when I took it out of it’s Cellophane wrapping..but it’s still pleasurable to have….

Pelargoniums still in flower

Crassula (Jade Plant) putting on another good show of flowers, but earlier than usual,I think..It never ceases to amaze me ,how and why it does so well…
..

Two of it’s babies also growing well too.both taken as small cuttings last summer..

Lastly,One of the Gourds that Amy so kindly gave Carole and I,,when we met recently whilst on Holiday..A lovely reminder of a happy evening together..

Just waiting for spring now :o)

All very colourful indeed Bloomer - a sunny day does wonders for the mind doesn't it?

You definitely have green fingers Sandra . . . unfortunately, I'm the 'Kiss of Death' to houseplants! :-(

4 Jan, 2015

That makes two of us Muddy ;)

4 Jan, 2015

Thanks Sheila,I just tinkered around with what I already had for the Gourd :o) My Conservatory is unheated,so very cold in winter..maybe you could save yours if you could bring it in from the Greenhouse? It's worth a try,or could you manage to get some cuttings? I can't bear to cut all the flowers off the Pelargoniums,,but I will cut them back in spring..

The poinsettia is fabulous and looks as if it could go on for much longer.
The gourd is very artistically arranged Sandra, and looks lovely.
Indoor flowering plants bring us one step closer to spring, yours are doing so well.

Thanks Scottish,it certainly does..and thank you ...
......
Muddy,I think mine are too scared to do anything else but survive..I am really mean with most of them :o))

You are much better at taking care of house plants than I am Sandra , I very much like how you have displayed the Gourd , I might even have to copy you LOL ..x

4 Jan, 2015

Thank you Chris,I really hope it goes on for a while too..I love it,and such a nice splash of colour..The Gourd seems to ok after it's coat of clear Varnish..This was the only dish I could find,so pleased you think it looks ok..I'm thinking to look for a bigger plate, and surround it with these and some pine Cones,or whatever seems to look right..I want to put it on the shelf under the Glass table in the Conservatory at some point..it looked like a pea on a drum in this dish, when I tried it there :o) x

4 Jan, 2015

You must be too kind to yours,Amy,and thank you..:o) I am no good at floral art in any way,you have no idea how many dishes I have tried,or places it has been ,so I just thought, this will have to do ! Lol x

Winter colour is nice.
I want my Jade plant to flower ! lol It never has.

4 Jan, 2015

That's a beautiful poinsettia Sandra, and isn't your Crassula doing well? We don't have any decent windowsills in our house - the only possible one faces north and has a radiator under it so my only huse plants are a peace lily at one end and an African violet at the other. Everything else has to manage with the conservatory which is more like a greenhouse.

4 Jan, 2015

You have a nice collection of plants Sandra. That poinsettia is so vibrant looking. I could never manage to keep one, much beyond the New Year. The jade plant is remarkable.

4 Jan, 2015

A lovely selection of houseplants, our jade plant has never ❀ flowered and it is quite old now, what's your secret?

4 Jan, 2015

Lovely colourful show you have there Bloomer, they are all looking so well. :o)

4 Jan, 2015

Thanks Hywel,I seem to be very lucky, that it flowers..I wonder if it's an age thing,as it must be around 25 years old now..
........
Thank you Sue,we seem to have a similar problem with window positions..we only have a narrow North facing window,in the lounge,as the main ones are patio doors into the Conservatory.,which is also like a Greenhouse too,as it gets morning and afternoon sun till mid afternoon,so it's very warm in summer, and really cold in winter...,All other windows have vertical blinds..so not ideal for plants..These are the only house plants I have,so the Poinsettia is on a table, which is not near the Radiator, but gets indirect light.. ..
.........
Thank you Paul,I live in hope about the Poinsettia,I'll let you know if it keels over before long :o) As it was only £2.50p ,I think it will still have been good value ,if only for a few weeks..and I think my Jade plant is happy enough ,or it could be this is what happens if it's stressed ..:o)
.........
Thanks Angela..I wish I could tell you,but I have no idea why it suddenly started to flower in the past three or four years..not always as good as this year, but I'm happy to see them at all..especially after the treatment it has had..Because it's quite heavy now,and I couldn't manage a bigger pot,it's been sawn off at the base two or three times, and down the sides..very barbaric,I know, but it's the only way I can get some fresh compost to it..It is as solid as a rock,..but still, it throws new leaves out,on the thick tree like stems ..and I trim some of the tops off occasionally,to keep it a nice shape..Watering and feeding,as and if I remember! lol..
..............
Thank you , Neellan..I'm pleased you like them..It's just nice to see some colour,as there isn't much outside yet ..xx

5 Jan, 2015

Couldn't see much outside with the freezing fog so the poinsettia cheered us as the christmas things went away for another year......
your houseplants look happy x

5 Jan, 2015

My jade plant is coming into bloom also. It must be their time to show off.

5 Jan, 2015

We haven't had any fog,Pam,and yesterday was lovely blue sky with sunshine..This morning,I was able to get out in the garden,as it wasn't too bad..All our Christmas things were back in the loft on Saturday..Glad you thought the plants looked happy..so they should,in the comfort of their home :o) x

5 Jan, 2015

I've just left a comment on your Jade plant photo,Paul :o)
Aren't we lucky to get flowers on ours, when a lot never get them ? Do you have any idea, why this should be,cos I don't ..

5 Jan, 2015

I 've been and given my Jade plant a "right ole dingdong of a lecture" Sandra, one could say I've threatened it with all kinds of dire, dastardly happenings, lol....its never ever flowered and mine is also over 20yrs old, it spends the summer outside and overwinters anywhere I can find a space indoors that is not too warm, now that is not easy in my house so it really should reward me for looking after its welfare all these years, I'm always in trouble at the amount I have indoors so sneak them in gradually when the winter is getting close,( bit ironic really as the moaners often add to my collection) ...Wonder if it would like some Tomorite, it works wonders with my other plants...

5 Jan, 2015

Your house plants are all looking really healthy and I do like Poinsettia, I forgot to get one this year! my gerainiums are flowering too and like you I will cut them back in spring, I have had Grassulas in the past but they havent flowered as well as yours! Robin wanted to take my Gourd home with him on Sunday lol but I declined his request! and you are lucky getting your Jade plant to flower ;0)

5 Jan, 2015

I have no idea why some jade plants bloom and others don't. All I know is that it doesn't mind being ignored for a long time. Then I'll walk into the room and see it in full bloom! It needs good lighting and doesn't like too cold or too warm.

5 Jan, 2015

I do the same as you Sue,outdoors in summer, and back inside in early Autumn..I guess a good feed will probably help, maybe in spring or early summer? Mine only gets fed when I remember, which isn't very often,,same with watering too.I really don't know what else to suggest..unless you move to West Yorkshire :o)

6 Jan, 2015

Thanks Carole,I love the Poinsettia, but I will have to see how long it lasts..but as they are so cheap, there is always next year :o) Oh dear,Robin doesn't miss much, does he,wanting to take your Gourd home with him Lol.Hasn't he got enough with your glass toothbrush holder ?? .That was so funny..:o)) x

6 Jan, 2015

It's baffling,Paul..as lots of us seem to have one of these plants..Mine gets good light, all year round, and warmth, except in winter,as it is really cold in the Conservatory, with not being heated.I wonder if that spurs it on to flower?,as it's always in the cold or cooler weather when it does flower..could that be a Eureka moment ? lol

6 Jan, 2015

Lincs, your telling off might just work. I threatened a campanula that if it didn't flower that year it was for the compost and it really went to town and was lovely!

6 Jan, 2015

I don't have any houseplants as I don't have your knack Sandra, mine tend to die:-( looking at your lovely pics, I might have another go:-)

7 Jan, 2015

love the first picture, its a very lovely and lucky color:-)

7 Jan, 2015

Lovely poinsetta plant. I've never been able to keep one going.

7 Jan, 2015

Just doing a bit of catching up as I can't sleep due to a racking cough and came across your blog. I was going to comment but it looks like everyone else has beaten me to it, so I'll just lovely winter colour in your house at the moment. The longest I've kept a Poinsettia was until May, then went off for a week and left OH in charge...need I say more?

8 Jan, 2015

Is the Jade plant what used to be called the "money" plant years ago Sandra ? Lovely pictures ! I considered getting a Poinsetta, but didn't think I would look after it very well !(I'm better with garden plants ) Hahaa!

8 Jan, 2015

I've given in and got some artificial poinsettias that last for years! I pop them in a big vase with white chrysnathemyms and holly. Come 6th Jan back in the loft with them.

8 Jan, 2015

Lovely blog to start the New Year Sheila.

9 Jan, 2015

So lovely to get a bit of colour to brighten up these dark days Sandra..x

9 Jan, 2015

Sorry folks, with the late reply..been struck down with the hacking cough virus too, since the 8th,and my get up and go hasn't returned yet..thanks for your nice comments, and hopefully,I'll be back soon..xx

19 Jan, 2015

So sorry to hear, that you have been unwell Sandra. Hope you'll be spring-ing into action soon. "See what I did" .... too much Radio 2, Steve Wright, heh!

19 Jan, 2015

Sorry about my comment 10 days ago, Sandra. I think I got you mixed up with Homebird.

19 Jan, 2015

Hope you feel better quickly Sandra.

19 Jan, 2015

Thanks Alan..no probs about wrong person..Not listened to Steve Wright,so I don't know "what he did" ? :o)
.........
Thanks Sue..improving slowly ..it can't last forever, just feels like it !Lol

19 Jan, 2015

Sorry you've not been well Sandra. It's been going round I know 'cause it stopped here a just after Christmas. I found licorice tea helped with the cough. It's not particularly nice, but worth it then they do say if it tastes awful it's doing you good. Hope you find your 'get up and go' before too long. xx

19 Jan, 2015

I noticed you had succumbed to it too,Julia..Did you lose your appetite at all? I am mainly eating fruit, especially Citrus, which seems to be the only thing that tempts me,at the moment..overdosing on Vitamin C,must be better than Chocolate :o)

19 Jan, 2015

Hi Sandra ... It's a saying Steve Wright uses, when he says something, which usually has a double meaning.

19 Jan, 2015

Yes Sandra my appetite wasn't good either. I've discovered 'Sharon Fruits' and have eaten at least one a day since as you say, better than chocolate. I'm not keen on Citrus fruits, they give me heartburn. Hope you continue to improve xx

20 Jan, 2015

Hope you soon recover from the virus Bloomer.

2 Feb, 2015

Lovely, blog Sandra ... yes I'm still catching up ! :o)

27 Feb, 2015

Sorry Lindak,I missed your comment, and thank you..almost ,but not fully recovered yet, think lots of us have succumbed to this Virus this year..I hope you managed to avoid it.

27 Feb, 2015

Thank you Terra..what are we like? I think we have been coming out in sympathy with each other on GoY ! I hope you are well on the road to recovery too x
My plants are still looking good, and the Jade plant is still full of flowers, but they have now turned to almost pure white,as they had a tinge of pink at first..I shall be sorry when they are finished..The Poinsettia is now in the Compost bin..! Lol..but it's done well, and for £2.50p,I had my moneys worth :o) xx

27 Feb, 2015

Good to hear you are getting better Sandra and Terra. I thought I was and then this week suddenly I was back in bed with a temp again. It does take a lot of getting rid of. I imagined one bright spot might have been losing a bit of weight, but no such luck.

27 Feb, 2015

Sorry to hear you have had a set back,Sue..I'm keeping my fingers crossed I am about over mine..It really has been a bad virus this year..March tomorrow, and hopefully better things ahead, after this next week anyway,as it's given a cold one..and strong winds with heavy rain for tonight..oh joy! I've just been checking my fuchsias, and they are starting to wake up..
