Being Sunday always nice to get a bit of a lie in till you get a knock on the back door ..

And what time do you call this ?

This is my less than impressed look ..now come along and out the way I ve got hungry mouths to feed .

Oh come on this really wont do ..do I have to come in and help myself ?

I knew you had more in this kitchen ..next time I ll be in that cupboard now I know where you keep them.

Hurry up Dad Im starving ..

Sorry son – he was chatting on that Grows on You just wait till I tell them Starlings .

Did someone call ..? I hear you get waited on ..

Is food served on a tray ?

Am I missing one ?

Over here mum ..look at me I m going swimming !

Help I think I m stuck !

Now just be careful you shouldnt be out on you own..

I ll just sit here then and wait for the family to show up..

Thats it little brother sit tight mum ll be along soon.

Oh mum .. there you are you ll never guess what happened to me today I went swimming got stuck a big claw grabbed me and …ssh lad

… I think thats quite enough excitement for one day , dont you ?

I watched a squirrel this morning trying to work out how to get the first red strawberry in the fruit cage .. they are back. !!! ...........

7 Jun, 2009

Thanks once again...a great blog and such fab photos! :-)

7 Jun, 2009

Just a real filthy look Aster ..oh the noise levels Gmz and with baby rooks above jumping on and off the roof ..

Thanks Amy often get asked how do we get so close to get photos ..think this blog explains lol No signs yet of Cyril but then a lot of moorland owned by Royals might be laying low after Prince Charles comments ..

Thank you Spritz .Dont suppose you get too many in your kitchen with Henry .Fortunately we shut the cats in the lounge when both back doors open.

7 Jun, 2009

lmao BB, so funny and great,, love the pics and so lucky have them come to your house like that,, you would have been great at writing for tales of the river bank, and saving that little baby who was stuck,, how sweet was that,,great blog as usual x

7 Jun, 2009

Thanks Sandra really quite amazing to see how soon they actually fledge when they cant really fly .. our borders alive with them hiding under plants and in rock crevices .

7 Jun, 2009

wouldnt our gardens boring without any of our lovely birds BB, i so look forward to seeing them when i wake, :o))

7 Jun, 2009

We do get plenty of birds, Bb! Henry chases the pigeons when he is outside, but I am surprised at how the little ones just carry on feeding above him when he walks past.

7 Jun, 2009

spritz i have a cat angelina who just doesnt care about the birds, she just gives them that look if they disturb her sleep in the garden, but still watch her just in case, and they dont seem worried about her either lol

7 Jun, 2009

Now that IS surprising!

7 Jun, 2009

just think she is lazy spritz and when i got her from rescue she had been so badly treated her back legs are not good,, she is only about 10 but cant even climb, never even goes out of the garden,, i just think she is happy being here after what she has been through,

7 Jun, 2009

Aaaahhh.... poor thing...some people should be SHOT!!!!!

7 Jun, 2009

she`s got a happy life now spritz, she has everything she wants and more, she`s my little princess,,:o)) your right how anyone can harm a animal is beyond me,, grr just makes me angry to even think about it,,

truely great blog. The expressions on their little faces. We put mealworms out but its always the magpies that get there first

7 Jun, 2009

Absolutely brilliant, BB - nearly fell off my chair.

7 Jun, 2009

Another wonderful blog with fantastic photos Bonkers. I'm glad you were on hand to help the little starling.

7 Jun, 2009

Wonderful blog Bb I loved the "running commentry" too you are a natural, I am just working upto getting my first indoor blackbird visitor he's made it to the step but at the mo' that's as far as he will venture.

7 Jun, 2009

What a brilliant blog and photos. Love that little one you rescued - really cute, bless him. Your blackbird is so like Freaky, who hopped into my kitchen last week! Chloe was not impressed and broke into a run to chase him out.

7 Jun, 2009

Actually Sandra I m fed up with them knocking and scratching at the door to get in ! lol

I look forward to going to bed without them ..of course thrilled they dont fly off and sit even walk over our feet to be fed I actually had a blackbird between my legs as knelt to put mealworms out ..sorry but that pic censored !

Gosh Mageth they too expensive to give to magpies we put left over meals out for the rooks first they have their fill then go .. then out with the good stuff for the little ones.

We live under a large rookery so if didnt accommodate them they would eat mealworms and everything else .Try giving your magpies rubbish first save the good stuff.

Thanks Wagger hope you off the floor now ..this lot would just go through my pockets ..cheers Toto yes saw him struggling but at least the rocks stop them going too deep.

Thanks Bob and Gee yes they really are quite adventurous
when needing to feed young the poor robin has to work overtime to out smart them.

7 Jun, 2009

Well done Bb another great blog and brilliant photo,s,where would they be without you on standby to feed and rescue them.I,m constantly on red alert to save my babies from my cats, they come to patio window to ask for food and bathe in my water feature which is just outside, thats the downside to feeding them and gaining their trust but its a joy to watch.........

7 Jun, 2009

7 Jun, 2009

Don't worry BB I've heard it all before - my sister married a Yorkshireman!

7 Jun, 2009

Aw bless her - missionary work was it ? lol

7 Jun, 2009

Something like that! (or should I say 'summat') - It worked though as he crossed over the border to live with her.

7 Jun, 2009

What???? A traitor amongst the ranks???? He couldn't have had pure Yorkshire blood. LOL

Thanks All for kind comments aye Gilli perhaps I ll ask Clarice and Sanbaz to keep an eye out for Frenchbeans brother - in - law , such nice people and they live in Lancashire too !

Had to keep back door shut as living in the porch left mealworms there and now thinks you just pop in and help yourself.

Thanks Sue , I tried to make a loggery David like a rockery but with logs and barkchip - blackbirds wrecked it looking for bugs !

Thanks Marann, Springwatch tonight I do like to catch Simon King knowledgeable and enthusiastic expect you ve been following too Clarice - thanks for your comment.

8 Jun, 2009

lol brilliant blog BB and yesssssss more fantastic photos

8 Jun, 2009

Thanks Eileen..........

8 Jun, 2009

Oh Bb, what a buggery. Your loggery, not rockery, became a wreckary. That is actually a real shame, sounds like it would have looked really good.

8 Jun, 2009

Fantastic shots Ray and an entertaining blog (as ever!). I can hear that baby chirping from here, lol. I've done a bit of rescuing this week too.

8 Jun, 2009

LOL David it did look good for about 10 minutes !!
What have you been rescuing Dawn ?

8 Jun, 2009

Well ... yesterday Bonnie found a teeny, tiny baby bluetit amongst some long grass, the mum and dad were dive bombing me and her, I placed it in a tree, then today, Bonnie again found a baby blackbird in some grass but I stopped her getting it and it flew into a tree, no parents were around.

8 Jun, 2009

Glad we were around yesterday Dawn...that baby starling rescued from the pond had kamikase tendencies...went in again after being retrieved and got soaked ! Lol.Was fine in end...fed by parents rest of day..but refused to leave the pond !

8 Jun, 2009

Probably thinks he's a duck, lol. Was just saying on Arlene's blog, the greater spotted woodpecker brought his baby to feed yesterday. Nearly as big as his Dad but his white bits were still grey.

8 Jun, 2009

Bless...must take a look at Arlenes blog now !

8 Jun, 2009

Fantastic blog! Everything's been said that I'd like to say. Brilliant running commentary. I could look at these pics over and over again, and probably will! Very well done.

Thanks Bbb almost moved in with us such a thrill to go into garden and birds stay think it a huge compliment to know they dont feel threatened by us.

Have BTO book that says you often only see Mistle thrushes as they fly off as such shy birds ..ours sit and wait for us to put out their food !

Excellent bird blog and photos Bonkers but you have increased my feeling of guilt.
Last night I removed a blackbird nest as it was only 1.5m from ground and I would pass within inches of it every day watering my tomatoes. I was afraid she would abandon any chicks so thought it best to remove the nest before she laid her eggs. I saw her collecting material this morning for another site.

10 Jun, 2009

wow Bb thats brilliant very funny too i wish that i could capture pics like that and have such friendly wildlife brilliant!!!!! I often get birds having a splash around in the pond but never quite able to snap them in the act. Guess my little tweeters are just shy!

10 Jun, 2009

Tend to abandon nests during incubation Ams once chicks hatched they will tolerate a lot to ensure their survival.

Have you followed Springwatch ? certain birds kill the chicks to bring the female back in season and ensure they are the male parent.

They also steal nesting material from one another so you havent done any harm as you say will rebuild assuming others taken it .

In future wouldnt worry as they struggle a lot with each other and predators and certainly would get used to you passing by.

Thanks Jewells do you have a seat near your pond ? Used to try and go out once I saw something ..quickly realised they more likely to come if sat still than trying to follow with camera lol They also seem to have favourite perches many a time I focus on the perch then along they come ..

Water is such a magnet for them even in the depths of winter .. would still bathe in frozen water when a hole was made for them .

10 Jun, 2009

Did you see the kingfisher nest last night on Spring Watch. It was far more elaborate than ours .....

10 Jun, 2009

Yes Dawn didnt think they were that fussy as long as it angled upwards perhaps they becoming more selective as more people building them ?

10 Jun, 2009

Probs BB - thought it was quite funny that they had gone to all that elaborate trouble just to get wasps in there .... but wasnt that fascinating. John says we have an old wasps nest in the garage - I'll get him to get it down and take some pics :-)

10 Jun, 2009

Thank you for the wonderful blog..really cheered me up. I really love to come onto this site as feel I am sitting chatting with so many new friends. Love Sue x

10 Jun, 2009
