Winter Beauty In Leighs Wood

This is one of two regular dog walking places within about five minutes walk. These photos were taken on Tuesday. We had had quite a thaw the previous day and woke to a heavy frost which created a real winter wonderland…magic:-)
This is the path which leads off a main road. Leighs Wood is mainly a birch wood and is tiny, although once in, you feel you could be anywhere.
Bottom left you can just see Rosie and Meg sniffing, to the right is the pond.
Nearly there
Here is the pond, not a duck in sight: Reed beds are slowly taking over too:-(
This is the same pond in October, dogs still sniffing:-)
Moving away from the pond and looking back.
I just like this one:-)
This is nearly the end of our walk. Almost time to turn around and retrace our steps (more or less).
This is the edge of a playground, the far side of the playground is the main road, and a little further on is a gateway into a cul-de-sac. Hope you enjoyed our walk, I thought everything looked so lovely, I hope you weren’t bored:-)

Nature never disappoints, even in winter. thanks ba.

Wow!!!! What a lot of comments, thank you so much everyone:-))))))) It's thawed here today too although still some snow remnants on the ground. I hope the forecasters have got it wrong and this is the last for a while. I do worry about the wild life and what will happen if this is the start of a new weather pattern. We've only just been persuaded to grow plants for hot dry weather lol:-) Isn't this a brilliant site:-))

Just found this, BA, and love it. GORGEOUS photos - my favourite is third before the end . . . you could frame it. :)))
Do you live anywhere near Kingswinford? If so, you'll know the fabulous Ashwood Nurseries? I'm thinking of writing a blog on fave nurseries if I can find enough pics.

Thanks Sheila, I'm near Walsall which is some distance from Kingswinford without a car. I may have been there many moons ago in an earlier incarnation when visiting garden centres and Yellow Book gardens was my main vice:-)
5 Jan, 2011
Oh right, yes without a car would be tricky. That's a shame, as you would love it. Scooter?!
5 Jan, 2011
Motorbike?? lol:-) I could, I suppose, get a train or buses, but wouldn't be able to bring much back with me. I'll google them:-)
5 Jan, 2011
Not bringing much back would be a HUGE disadvantage. What you need is a good gardening friend with a CAR! Or a local group?? (I run a local gardening group, and we car-share all over the place :))
5 Jan, 2011
How lovely, nothing like that here I'm afraid:-)
5 Jan, 2011
Aaaww, shame. Would you fancy starting one?? :)
5 Jan, 2011
Sheila, they may think I was just doing it to get lifts...as if 8~] that's supposed to be an innocent face:-)
7 Jan, 2011
Well . . . if you know someone who'd enjoy the trip (only half-an-hour away), you could always offer a contribution to the petrol, or a bottle of red for the driver (to be consumed at a later date!).
7 Jan, 2011
I wish Sheila, wouldn't mind paying all the petrol :-)
7 Jan, 2011
I've just come across a leaflet from Ashwood nurseries Sheila which I brought home from Gardeners World Live (easily reached by public transport). It looks amazing, i would love to see John's garden there
8 Jan, 2011
Yes, it is beautiful. Only open about four days a year, I think. I've got some pictures, which I'll try to upload!
