Visit to Consall Hall Rare Plant Fair.

Son-in-law Paul and daughter Boo +Aislinn took me for a day out at Consall Hall rare plant fair in Staffordshire for a belated Birthday treat. We got there rather late due to a diversion and Pauls having to work Saturday morning, but better late than never. The weather was rather cold, typical after all that lovely sun:-) I thought you might like to see some of the amazing grounds. Staff were very friendly and the gift shop helpers said it was fantastically beautiful late May/early June when we hope to go again. Hopefully we’ll have more time to see it all, as we only saw a fraction of the grounds. There’s also a nature conservation scheme in operation there, well worth a visit. Tea rooms rather nice, I think they hold wedding receptions there and I can recommend the lemon drizzle cake:-)

This I think is the man behind all this loveliness, but will find out more on next visit if all goes to plan

How’s that for a Pieris!

After all that walking, I needed a little rest, ah here’s a nice cave:-)

Not really, it was too cold! I found somewhere more mundane and got a hug:-)

Here’s Rebecca (Boo) Paul and Aislinn posing;-)

What’s that? eh? Did I buy anything? Hell yes:-)
I seem to have embraced the blues:

First the lovely pulmonaria blue ensign, a recommendation of Spritz’

Muscari Valerie Finnis, bought 2 of these.

Beautiful deep blue muscari, no label:-(

I seem to have gone a bit keen on campanulas too:-)

Whenever I shop with Boo, she talks me into buying things I don’t need….and here they are:

This is a large tea light lantern, I’ve no idea where to put it….but I do like it and it was a bargain:-)

hope you enjoyed the visit:-)
I’ve found a fantastic link to Consall Gardens which show how its 70 acres were created just 50 years ago from a mainly industrial land scape and it’s all from the imagination of one man, an engineer who worked alongside Sir Frank Whittle during WW2. This is a link http://www.consallgardens.co.uk/ I hope I’ve done it right? When you get to the home page there’s a program, Country Lives, shown on ITV 2007 just click on ‘click here’ and watch this fascinating program. Please look at it, I promise you you won’t regret it:-)

;-)

Thanks Pp, disappointingly, the cave was a shallow man-made construction just to house the reclining nude I think so not take very long to explore lol:-) If you're ever in the Midlands it really is worth a visit:-)

Linda, you've changed you comment...now what I've written looks stupid lol. Just in case you never saw it fellow GOYers it was....." your photo" and nothing else, as though it was all too much for her. Not knowing if it was the one of me in the cave or with Aislinn I was considering deleting them both lol:-)
Back to normal now. Thanks Linda it was a lovely treat, I only wish I had a better camera to show it as it really is. Maybe have a new one when we hopefully visit again:-)

It looks lovely Ba, the lake is beautiful and I want the tea light holder! Is that you in pic 16? And before I go to your link did Frank Whittle fly Concord? Be back later x

6 Apr, 2012

Jet engine I think Annella....it might be me in the pic in my lovely green pegs...or it might be me reclining in the cave...as it was very cold.... I'll leave it to you to decide;-)
The tea light holder still has no home...raining here, no hosepipe ban here...no hosepipe here since kitchen makeover last year...they must have disconnected it:-( At least I won't get into trouble if there is a hosepipe ban later on..must see if I can fit a water butt somewhere:-)

Oh, Wow! Thank you SO MUCH for the link to the programme about this magical place . . . just watched it with a big smile on my face. Absolutely beautiful Ba. :))

8 Apr, 2012

Thanks Sheila, I think you're the only one to watch it, but I think it's fascinating. Isn't he a marvellous man too? and how wonderful to make all this from such a landscape. In the leaflet I picked up from there I was pleased to see he still lives there:-)

8 Apr, 2012

So he must be about 95?! Good for him . . . yes, a marvellous man, with a brilliant imagination. :)

8 Apr, 2012

Two of us now,Ba..! that is a lovely place to visit, and what a fantastic man,John Podmore is for his age and his never ending creativity ...I do so admire his zest for life..and the 'Country lives' video is great..ooh,one of my favourite gardeners ,Chris Beardshaw..:o))..says she, heart beating madly ! :o).thanks Ba..I hope I get to visit one day :o)

8 Apr, 2012

I agree Bloomer (with the heart beating madly bit, lol)!

Hope to visit one day too. Thanks again Ba for letting us know about this beautiful garden. :))

8 Apr, 2012

You have impeccable taste,Sheilabub...:o) I wish he was on more programmes..he is a good gardener,as well as easy on the eye.! Lol.

8 Apr, 2012

Oy...You two...behave yourselves:-) Glad you enjoyed it too bloomer, I'd never heard of it and found out about it by accident. It was when I was on Cotswold Garden Flowers website ordering some plants and noticed they would be there at a plant fair...and it was nearly my birthday (22nd 21 again), so asked if I could have a visit there in lieu of a present...so glad I did. Even Aislinn (6) enjoyed it:-)

8 Apr, 2012

No can do,Ba .. anyway, you are far too young to appreciate him :o) ..a great idea for a birthday present, and glad Aislinn enjoyed it too..nothing like getting them interested at a young age..does she like helping you in your garden.?

9 Apr, 2012

Well, there's not much she can do in the back without treading on plants, but she did help her dad to dig up the builders rubble from my front garden after the makeover and she does help in her own garden:-)

9 Apr, 2012

That's nice,Ba..just a shame their little feet are sooo heavy ! LOl.

10 Apr, 2012

Indeed:-)
