VISIT TO LOCAL GARDEN CENTRE

Last week I went with my friend Chris to a local family owned garden centre called William Wheat and Son. This first pic is the entrance to the floristry section.

It’s always a treat to visit here as they take such care of their presentation. THey have the most impressive entrance area of any garden centre I’ve been to and I thought you might enjoy seeing it.

We came here early July and I was kicking myself because I didn’t bring my camera. Their outside selling area looked amazing, everything looked so beautiful then. Obviously it is much depleted now so I didn’t take any pics there. I’ll remember next year:-)

Their Lakeside cafe is great and as the name implies looks out on their lake.
They also have some lovely cakes and napkins so thick they feel almost like linen. Yes, we treated ourselves:-)

I agree with Sbg ... what a smashing place it looks to be. Our closest Wyevale has been sold to a family run nursery, so I'm hoping things improve to a higher standard to before.

What a lovely place to visit. They obviously take great pride in their garden centre and look after the plants really well.

It is good to have such a nice one close by.

(When I do my food shopping I always go to my favourite garden centre which is close by. I read the newspaper and have a cup of coffee!!!)

It does look impressive and very colourful, the sort of place to enjoy even if not particularly needing anything, somehow that would never work for me, lol, we have a couple that we go to, one is 5miles away and similar to this one, everything very well cared for and the staff are very helpful, even has the café that overlooks a massive pond, we always treat ourselves to lunch or afternoon tea, our other one is approx.12miles away in Rutland, no pond or lake but a very well cared for place, knowledgable and helpful staff, always makes a difference, very good restaurant so we treat ourselves there as well, both can be a bit pricey at times but if you want quality you have to pay for it don't you.. Lovely photo's Ba...

Ba, I`ve just made a comment on your petunia blog regards no photos and yet they are showing on this one and I must say they are most impressive, would definitely draw anyone in for a stroll round.

They look stunning! I am especially drawn to the columns of flowers, would love to achieve that.
Just had a look at their website which has some great photo's and as you implied the lake is impressive. Lovely place to visit, had to check to see if it was at all in my travelling range - bit too far, but great to see.

What a wonderful Garden Centre,,no wonder you enjoy going there..and on the subject of disappearing Photo's ,I have just left a comment on your last blog, and they are back ! whoo hoo..so are mine ..
One our two Wyevale GC ,has now been sold to a Dobbies..and looking round last week,it's more expensive than Wyevale!. We have others in our area,so will be going to those instead.Still with quality plants at acceptable prices :o)

Sadly my local garden centre is more about renting out to retail outlets and clearing most of the space in September for tatty Christmas stock. I find I have to drive many miles for one that is still ion to plants and well stocked.

A lot are like that now Drcbonus. I suppose with so many people buying online now, myself included as I have no transport, they have to do something different to compete. All try to become "destination places" or whatever the new jargon is. Nice cafes though which is one bonus:-) Just looking at loropetalums online at the moment:-)
