Keeping Busy In The Time Of Corona

Ay up, just want to show off my handywork. I had started worrying that garden birds may be neglected just at nesting time. I have a robin and a wren in my ivy that I know of and others in my holly. I threw out my old bird table some time ago after finding it impossible to clean and having read of the diseases passed around on them. I had noticed the odd dunnock getting fatter and fatter and eating all the time until it couldn’t fly and eventually died. I am using a lasagne dish to hold the seed and mealworms and this table is much easier to clean as it has biggish gaps in the sides.

pretty, lightweight drill on top of dog food, yes I’ve made sure they won’t starve.

This is it’s case, when I bought it some years ago, some money went from purchase price to breast cancer charity.

Why is it that there are never enough holes or holes in the right place or correctly sized screws?

it is in situ, I used to have a table nearer to my house in the old days, but the three little ones would just scare them.

You can see lasagne dish, I think I’m a genius:-)

This is what happens if I foolishly leave my dressing gown on the sofa:-)

Clean slabs

It took me about eight hours to clean all the paving slabs and many had immovable black marks which I believe are lichen, I had neglected them somewhat the last few years really:-(

This little clematis is alpina constance, it’s in a pot on my little pink, corner patio. I bought it last year, lovely colour.

My favourite daffodil, Thalia:-)

This little variegated pieris has suffered from sooty mold for two years, I have been scraping it off with my thumb nail. Pieris seem particularly subject to this of late. I’ve ordered some rubbing alcohol which is supposed to get rid of scale insects. Have any of you any experience with this?

I hope you are all keeping safe and well. My lovely daughter-in-law Mitch has been rather poorly, still at home, the paramedics gave her a prescription for antibiotics to treat suspected pneumonia. Happy to say the tablets are working. It’s frightening when coronavirus touches ones family.

Good idea with the lasagnia dish B.A. Nice to hear from you! Your dogs are so cute. You couldn't really disturb them, could you !
I am so sorry about your daughter-in-law. I hope she recovers soon .
Take care and keep safe !

Thanks Rose, are you coping alright?

Well done with the bird table, it looks very smart and the addition of the dish will make it very easy to clean. I have just ordered some plates with smaller holes to put over some bird nest boxes. The holes in them are 40 mm which are miles too big for the size of the box and the Tits don't like them - much too easy for the nestlings to be pulled out. Things are still being sold on the auction sites so they came from there. Years ago I used to do Craft Fairs and usually have some stuff on eBay, the money for which goes on the garden, but they got taken off for lock-down as it means you have to go out to post them!
It's frightening to think that you might get ill, not necessarily with the coronavirus but anything that needs antibiotics, how do you explain to your doctor that you are ill enough to need seeing, but not contagious? May we all keep well from whatever ailment.

It's a very smart bird table, with a splendid water dish - do they just drink or do they try to have a bath in it? Its nicely sited too, so the birds have a quick getaway into the bush behind it danger threatens!

Your little dogs are gorgeous - sensible too choosing a nice soft dressing gown to curl up on!

Hope Mitch continues to make good progress and that she didn't pass on the infection to the rest of the family!

Hi stera, the lasagne dish is not to bathe in, it's for the seed and mealworms. I use it so I can remove it for washing. I do have a bird bath on my little red tiled patio. Mitch is doing fine now thanks :-)

Hi Honeysuckle, I may have bought something from you on ebay. Do you mean you are not allowed to post stuff now? I am so grateful for these little dogs, they make me laugh every day and they are someone to talk to so I can pretend I'm not talking to myself lol. Mitch is recovering very well thanks. Apparently the x chromosome offers some protection, that's the theory anyway, good job we've got two:-)

Blimey Ba, you have been busy and very productive with constructing a new bird table and cleaning those pavers! I love the Clematis ... it's so cute!

Hi June, great to see you`ve been busy, liking your bird table and that's a great use for your lasagne dish. As for that little clem I want one. What cute little doggies the`ve chosen that dressing gown with the intention of fooling you into thinking they are really leopards.lol.
Glad that Mitch is recovering, and that you are ok.
I`ve been keeping myself busy re-organising the garden.

hi Shirleytulip, the funny thing is, the birds started using it within a couple of days, they normally take a while before they get used to one. My friend told me she was going to make one of your plum cakes yesterday, she loves them too:-)

Hi Chris I knew you would be busy, I don't think you ever stop:-) I even cleaned the windows (inside) today, cant remember the last time lol. I have been weeding and tidying front and back garden too:-)

Rose, I think our gardens keep us sane, must be awful for people self isolating in a high rise flat:-(

Ba, that blinkin' Plum cake will forever be associated with me, rather than anything growing in my garden!!

Lol, the price of fame:-))))

I can't remember the last time I made one of those cakes ... far too sweet for me now that I have Diabetes Type 2 ... :o((

Hello Ba, you have been industrious, might sound daft but it's never occurred to me to place a dish on the birdtables, how silly is that, you're so right about keeping them clean, it is a right kerfuffle, I use a paint scraper and then scrub them, always end up with scraped knuckles, I'll be raiding my containers.....It was nice to have a peek around your garden, you have some lovely shrubs and flowers, your three little furballs look so cosy, we have two that do that here if anything is left out and Harriet our little westie loves to jump on the clean washing, soon as its taken in she is there before I get chance to fold it, lol....the biggest Brynner likes to grab the handtowel in the kitchen even though he has a bed to sleep in... ....
