BLESSED

We who have gardens are the lucky ones, can’t go out? No problem, it’s almost as though the weather has taken pity on us and delivered nature’s beauty somewhat early. I’ve even had petunias in a wall basket come through the winter! They’ve had a head start, but I’m afraid to mess with them in case I damage the roots, don’t think wall cones are the best shape for plants.

This lovely quince, Geisha Girl had massive quinces last year.

This looks a bit blurry, but wanted to show the bright red young growth 0n my cold cotinus with the sun behind it, they looked like little lanterns.

Brightest of hostas June, I love it and nothing to do with sharing the same name:-)

I love the sea of blue provided by forget-me-nots and they’re not hard to pull out when finished.

North border

New plants a tiarella pink skyrocket and pulmonaria silver bouquet. Four ferns, all anthyrium niponicum one of each pewter lace, x ghost, burgundy and silver falls. bought from Long Acre Plants where I have bought many plants before. Always happy with the quality and service. They are shade plant specialists.

For a few years now the council has not been cutting the grass in our cul de sac very often and leaves behind an awful mess. A year or so ago a neighbour took this job upon himself, what a difference!!!

Keep safe and well xx

Ba how very pretty your garden looks and how very well looked after it all is. We too have a lot of forget-me-nots and as you say they are easy to pull up when the time comes! We also have a lot of bluebells but they are a bit more trouble!!
How beautifully looked after your cul de sac now is, it looks lovely out there.

Don't remember seeing a pic of your garden before, BA - its so pretty especially the pond area. Your public spirited neighbour deserves a medal. Do you eat your quinces? Just one sliced up makes a great difference to an apple pie!
Agree Long Acre Plants are very good and reliable - your little ferns look nice and healthy.

Thanks Sheila, that acer came with me in 1994 from my old garden where I had kept it in a pot. It was very pleased to be released into the wild :-)

Yes, so lucky to have a garden - don't know what I'd do without it. Live in rural setting on smallholding so always lots to do. Does depend on weather and last couple of days been cold and showery which definitely affects my mood. Hope it warms up soon or all those seedlings will long have outgrown their pots!

Hi Mossfoot, how lovely to have a smallholding, do you have any animals? I believe the weather is improving from now on, we did need the rain, but enough is enough:-)

Lovely pics, Bornagain. The quince is a gorgeous colour too. Your pond is to be envied, Iā€™d love if our pond had planting all around, this looks so attractive.
Your hosta is a perfect specimen too, plus that acer again, just beautiful. Whoever your neighbour is, well done to them for taking on the task of mowing the grass outside..looks amazing especially with the stripes. Dedication there!

Yes Kate, it's made such a difference, he also removes any little weeds that dare to grow in the gutters. Until last year the pond was absolutely full of frogs and newts, then they seem to have migrated. I have some now and I have seen one newt, so I'm hopeful they'll all return home. I also have a small amount of frog spawn. Fingers crossed :-)

Lovely blog and photographs Ba, I count myself lucky, I honestly don't know how anyone living in a flat or a terrace house with only a tiny back yard is managing to cope with todays circumstances, I would have flipped my lid within a few days, I'm not one for going out and about a lot except to walk our dogs, recently we haven't been doing that, its simply not worth it, twice in the last five weeks, thankfully they have plenty of room here for running around and the times I go up and down the garden during the course of my days ensures I get my exercise as well...

Thanks Lincs, I was looking at houses with bigger, grassed gardens before the lockdown as my dogs have no grass to run on (or eat). They have the paving and are tiny enough to go into the beds without doing too much harm. I would miss my garden very much though. May start looking again when things get back to as near normal as we can expect. I'd miss my house too, but my daughter would like me to live nearer to her, she lives only a few miles away, as neither of us drive:-)
